The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the Florida Department of Transportation has reached a deal with the Crossroads shopping center to acquire the land for use in the I-4 Ultimate project.
According the report, the state will pay $198 million for the land, which it intends to use as an interchange for I-4.
Crossroads was originally built by Disney in the 80's just outside of what is now Disney Springs, and was a popular stop for guests to stock up on grocery items or eat at restaurants for lower prices than they could get on Walt Disney World property.
Some of the businesses have already been shuttered due to the impacts of COVID-19, including the hugely popular Sweet Tomatoes restaurant. Others, which include Goodings, Taco Bell, TGI, Fuddruckers and a pirate themed mini-golf will received payments as part of the deal. The businesses will likely close in August 2021.
