runDisney has announced expanded registration availability for 5K races across all four Walt Disney World race weekends, starting with the 2026 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend.

The change means more runners can participate in the 5K events at each race weekend throughout the year.

What's Changing

Starting with Wine & Dine 2026, Disney will offer more registration spots for all 5K races during the four annual runDisney weekends at Walt Disney World. Registration for the Disney Wine & Dine 5K opens on February 10, 2026.

The expanded capacity applies to:

  • Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend
  • Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
  • Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
  • Disney Springtime Surprise Weekend

The increased availability addresses high demand for the shorter race distance. 5K events typically sell out quickly, leaving some runners unable to register.

The 5K distance is popular with first-time runDisney participants and those looking for a more relaxed race experience while still getting the full theme park racing atmosphere.

Yes, times have changed. I consistently am a C corral runner though I have met the time / pace requirements for the B corral several times. Supposedly by having people with like running paces start in groups with the fastest pace groups of runners in front a smooth start and flow to the event will result. Also considering there is a two-minute space between corral starts. To my irritation, every event, for the first half mile it is an obstacle course of maneuvering / speeding up then suddenly slowing down to get around an assortment of Sloths, Turtles and Snails with A, B and C corral BIB's that should not have been any closer to the front than the E corral. If Disney is going to have a corral system with pace / time requirements for each corral with rules to how a person can get into said corrals, then how do so many (that do not meet the requirements) get into those early corrals? Hence, have a minimum pace requirement of 18 minutes per mile not the current 16 minutes per mile so there is reduced pressure on the Sloths, Turtles and Snails about completing the course (finishing) reducing the incentive for the slow runners and walkers to want to start from the front and be nothing more than mobile roadblocks. God bless all the participants for being out there, just want to see everyone enjoy the events being courteous, reasonable, fair and honest.

I can remember the races not being so character focused in the mid 2000s. There were not set ups, character meets, and photo pass. I can remember Cruella and Gaston clapping and cheering for us off Osceola Pkwy during a Tower13K and nobody was stopping for a photo…bc we were all there to run. They were just on the side of the road cheering us on. Times have changed. 45mins you say?? Yikes!

The 5K and 10K races are very popular and should have more BIB's (spots) available. The pace should also be 18 min per mile rather than 16. Excellent distances for the power walkers, slow runners and family members that just want to have fun and enjoy a run at Disney. For the avid runners, competitive runners, the challengers (both Dopey and Goofy) front load them into the A, B, C and D corrals. Let them clear the course without having to maneuver through the other moving roadblocks so the (also rans) can do and enjoy the event their way. The Disney Races are not Olympic qualifiers; they are supposed to be fun and enjoyable with character photo ops and taking in where you are "Disney". For those folks looking for PR's front load them and let them loose but don't take the enjoyment of the experience away from the rest.

Hot take but 5k doesn't need more spots. All other distances should increase back to close to what they were before covid. Marathon and half used to be over 20,000 people. They reduced once they came back from covid. They should reduce the number of dopey bibs available (about 8,500) because that takes up a lot of 5k and 10k entries. Goofy (the original real challenge) now only has about 1,000 bibs. runDisney is already incredibly popular and promoting it like this and the constant influencers are not needed.

As long as all of the race logistics are still sound. Sadly, like anything Disney does these days, this smells like...

Some of the character lines are 45 minutes long already though. Perhaps they'll just open Epcot later on those days.

That is nice to see. I mean, they are leaving money on the table by having them sell out within hours of opening. Seems demand is there.

This is a little tricky for me. Springtime Surprise '27 starts just before my son's birthday, and I'd love to run the challenge with him. However, since the challenge starts before he turns 12 I might have trouble with registration. However, if I registered him directly for the 10 miler he would be old enough at that point and have no problem. However, he may have no interest in actually running 10 miles and all of this is moot.

It is most important that you have an established account with Disney, that you log in the day of registration at the correct time, and you SHOULD be fine. But others have different stories. Princess usually is a popular weekend.

Is buying a RunDisney membership necessary to get into any of the 5ks?

And I’m a WineDineHalf guy……might expand and give Princess a shot maybe.
