Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop has filed a permit for signage at the former Sprinkles and CrazyShake location in Disney Springs Town Center, the latest sign that the temporary relocation is moving forward.

The permit was filed today, though no opening date for the temporary location has been confirmed, and no closure date has been announced for the existing Ghirardelli spot near World of Disney.

That said, a signage permit is typically one of the later steps before a new location opens, suggesting things are progressing. Given that Ghirardelli will want to keep downtime to a minimum, a smooth handover between the two locations seems likely — meaning the temporary Town Center spot could open close to when the original location closes for its remodel.

The original Ghirardelli location near World of Disney is closing for a major remodel, with the refurbished space expected to reopen in Spring 2027. The Town Center location will be temporary only, with Ghirardelli returning to its original spot once the work is complete.

The old Ghirardelli store seemed so tiny...Not sure if this one is bigger or smaller...It would have a better seating area right over the water...especially if they put a huge canopy over the whole thing... How long will this be here "temporarily"?

Ah, the classic “I don’t know how this works but I’m mad about it.” As @danlb_2000 mentioned, notices of commencement are about ensuring payment. If a contractor is not paid these enable them to place a lien on a property. Dimensional signage does need to comply with building codes. They’re often illuminated in some manner which means they need electricity to be safely provided. They need to be properly supported and attached so they don’t fall and crush someone.

No clue if they did or not. We went to the one in San Francisco a couple years ago, and it is where I got my sister to admit that she likes ice cream. All she has been saying ever since is that the one at Springs needs the glass dishes. 🤣

Didn’t they do that back in the day? Yes!! The last time I got a scoop i wasn’t impressed and it cost more with passholder discount than a non-discounted scoop at salt and straw which uses much better ingredients. Can you even by an individual square anymore? Or do you have to buy a whole pack?

We are in the habit of calling these permits, but they are really Notice of Commencement which are about assuring proper payment to the contactor for the work being done.
