Cars Land and Villains Land Building Footprints Revealed in Permit Filings
Posted: Thursday January 29, 2026 3:40pm ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

A new wastewater document filed with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for "Project SNK" reveals what may be building outlines and utilities for the Cars and Villains Land expansions coming to Magic Kingdom.

The filing provides the clearest look yet at what may be the physical footprint of both lands.

The wastewater plans show multiple facility structures for both expansion areas. The Cars Land expansion, Piston Peak, will sit near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The Villains Land expansion will be positioned to the north of the Cars area.

Building and Utility Layout

The document outlines several "FACILITY" structures connected by a network of utility lines. These appear to represent building locations and underground infrastructure needed to support the new lands.

The plans show green utility lines marked as "12'S" connecting various points of connection (POC) throughout both expansion areas. These utility runs will connect to existing Magic Kingdom infrastructure, including a notation for "CONNECT TO (WDW-12'S) (MH#18) DIVERSION."

Building Sizes Point to Major Attractions

Rough measurements of the facility structures shown in the plans reveal substantial building footprints across both lands.

The largest structure sits in the Villains Land area at approximately 70,000 square feet. This is comparable to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios, which measures 71,000 square feet. A second Villains building measures around 48,000 square feet.

The Cars Land structure comes in at roughly 40,000 square feet.

For comparison, Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios has a building footprint of 92,000 square feet, while DINOSAUR at Animal Kingdom measures 85,000 square feet. Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT is the largest ride building at Walt Disney World at 197,000 square feet.

The 70,000-square-foot Villains structure suggests a major dark ride or indoor attraction. The smaller buildings likely house additional attractions, dining, or retail spaces.

Cars Land Proximity to Big Thunder Mountain

The Cars Land portion sits adjacent to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The facility structures shown in the plans indicate multiple buildings will be constructed in this area. The utilities route around the existing coaster and connect to infrastructure near Frontierland.

Villains Land Northern Position

The Villains Land expansion occupies the northern section of the project area. Multiple facility structures are outlined in this zone, with utility connections running between them and linking to the broader Magic Kingdom utility network.

The plans show at least four separate facility structures in the Villains area, suggesting multiple buildings or attraction structures will be built.

Cars Land at Magic Kingdom

The Cars Land expansion will extend Frontierland into a reimagined area inspired by the American Southwest and the world of Pixar's Cars, to be know as Piston Peak. This will not be a copy of Radiator Springs Racers from Disney California Adventure. Instead, Disney has said this version will feature all-new attractions and off-road environments built specifically for Magic Kingdom.

Expect a desert landscape with rockwork, winding roads, and detailed theming that blends the rustic Frontierland style with the stylized look of the Cars films. Disney has confirmed there will be multiple attractions, including at least one major ride. The area is also expected to include themed dining and shopping locations that fit naturally into the expanded Frontierland setting.

This expansion will sit on the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island between Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Villains Land at Magic Kingdom

Villains Land will be a completely new themed area dedicated to Disney's most iconic villains. Disney has described it as a place where the bad guys finally get their own spotlight, with a darker atmosphere and bold, dramatic environments, all on an "incredibly twisted grand scale."

The land is expected to include two major attractions - one of which may be a roller coaster, along with themed dining and retail. While Disney has not revealed specific characters or ride systems yet, the concept art suggests a moody, storybook-style setting filled with gothic architecture, and larger-than-life villain imagery.

Villains Land will be located farther back beyond the Cars area, making it one of the biggest physical expansions in Magic Kingdom history.

Go back a few pages to the latest construction photos. They're framing out the waterway currently, and we should have a better idea of how robust this water way will look soon.

I presume it’s been discussed here, but I haven’t seen anything about it…but if this photo is representative, then it looks like instead of rivers of America, we’re going to have a different water view?

The patent makes it sound like that the armature doesn't have to be connected to a central axis, like a typical spinner, but be on some sort of track going around a non-circular track, like the old carney 'whip' rides. Imagine if the vehicles below could also lift up and down, or simply go over rough terrain....

He didn't say this was a time they wouldn't use it. He was explaining why they had patented many other things in the past that were never built.

Time will tell. I’d put my chips on the road rally but I’ve never been that lucky with roulette!

I think internally TSMM was designed to be the land’s headliner “E,” with SDD being thought of as a D (or even C) and Aliens a B/A. Evidence for this is that the new TSMM queue is much longer than the SDD queue. The portion of the SDD queue that was covered after the fact was designed as overflow, and thus was not originally given shade. In contrast, the new TSMM queue is entirely shaded and features two new outdoor areas that are rarely fully utilized. SDD is much more popular than they thought it would be, which is why the MIDC is being built (to take pressure off it) rather than what the park arguably needs more, an all ages dark ride.

Because they want to own the process described in the patent to prevent someone else from using it. Patents aren’t tied to approved projects. They have a number where they’ve gone through the trouble of describing a unique ride system and have never built it.

Sure but why go to all the trouble to describe a very complex and unique track ride system when you’re only planning on using it for a simple spinner, it sure seems to me like what is described in the entire patent would be a unique ride system for this attraction that would allow for the off-road style that is being advertised. I wasn’t even sure if the second attraction was still happening I can’t remember when the last time it was mentioned? But of course, at one time it was mentioned and there’s been no confirmation that it’s been canceled.

I said version, not quantity.

You don’t have to building anything to get a patent.

We see this a lot. They pay their Imagineers to develop and build stuff to completion and the guests never get to see/experience it. Now we can say Disney wastes money in both their Movie and their parks business.

*Sato... his other famous patent was for the interactive bioluminescent foliage that was supposed to be part of Pandora but never happened.

Derek Howard, Executive Creative Ride Designer at WDI. Gaku Sotu, a mechanical engineer. And Ed Nemeth, who notably is also on the patent for Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters.

Midway Mania is fun, but I always thought of Slinky Dog as the chaser. Maybe because MM predates the land itself. I remember running to Slinky Dog at rope drop and it was already a half hour wait by the time we got there.
