Tron construction site - February 2019

Construction is about to move into high-gear at the site of the upcoming Tron coaster at the Magic Kingdom.

A tower crane, which is used to lift heavy items and assemble steel structures, is now onsite in Tomorrowland.

Disney recently submitted a permit for "Install Ride Steel," with the work being carried out by long-time Disney construction partner Coastal Steel Inc.

Disney is yet to announce an opening date for Tron at Walt Disney World, but we expect to see it debut in the Spring of 2021.

Also, they had already build some of the AAs for WRE and those got repurposed for Listen to the Land once Epcot was being built.

@Movielover is correct. Where Big Thunder is now there was supposed to be a large complex called Thunder Mesa, with a Cowboy version of PoTC called "Western River Expedition" inside of it. The energy crisis happened, and by the time Disney had money to spend they were planning EPCOT. Thunder Mesa never got built. On top of that, everyone was asking "Where is Pirates????" when WDW opened. Marc Davis was tasked with adapting it for Florida, and took some things away so it would complement Western River Expedition. Thus the worse version of Pirates. If you want to read about it here is the blog post where I learned all this stuff.

Was never into Tron, but adding another thrill coaster to WDW is a plus in my opinion whatever the theme is I suppose.

Gah! Cindi Castle looks like it's sponsored by Pepto Bismol™

It's exactly that reason why Pirates was a afterthought. They figured East Coast would not be as attracted to the mythos of pirates since its part of the history there. Which is why WDW's Frontierland was going to be the big star with Western River complex.

Pirate themed area:

I really wish theyd have brought Treasure Cove to the Magic Kingdom instead of Tron coaster but oh well. If your gonna take something from the Shanghai Park, Treasure cove is amazing, and its pirate themed. Orlando the only disney location thats near the carribean in Florida. And florida has a lot of Pirate lore in the state as well. Why does Orlando have the worst Pirates ride and no pirate themed area?

That's longer than I thought it would be! I'm really looking forward to this ride.

Test Trak: You're in a car. Going 60 mph. The end. Slow and boring.

ha! yep this looks slow and boring. The launch will be fun though!

Unfortunately, it ain't. (Unless we can convince WDW otherwise with complaints.)
