The TRON Identity program at Magic Kingdom appears to have permanently closed, after Disney quietly removed the experience's page from the official Walt Disney World website yesterday and filed construction permits for the space.

TRON Identity operated out of the Tomorrowland Launch Depot building near TRON Lightcycle / Run. The paid experience allowed guests to create a custom "Program" action figure modeled after themselves, complete with facial scanning and voice recording.

Guests were guided through a multi-step customization process that included image capture of facial features, helmet and body selections, team color choice, and the recording of six spoken dialogue lines in their own voice.

The experience originally debuted with a price of $89.99 per figure, plus tax. Beginning June 3, 2025, Disney introduced a limited-time discounted price of $50, suggesting demand may have softened in the months prior to its removal.

In recent days, two Notices of Commencement have been filed for addresses that resolve to the Tomorrowland Light & Power. Both permits list Buena Vista Construction Company as the contractor.

Buena Vista Construction Company is commonly associated with smaller-scale projects at Walt Disney World, including interior modifications and minor refresh work. The contractor choice suggests limited changes to the space rather than a major redevelopment.

At this time, Disney has not commented on the closure or shared plans for what may replace TRON Identity.

I watched some reviews when these things first launched and they were all negative lol
The Wha?
I REALLY wanted to do this and am sad to have missed it as it's been a few years since I've been to WDW and no idea if/when I'll ever get back. :(
Big Tron fan and go to WDW often. Did not even realize this existed...
This wasn’t great but it was SOMETHING. With the closure of this, the Avatar version, and the D-Tech in Tomorrowland, it’s pretty clear Disney’s not interested in offering unique retail experiences even with an immediate and demonstrable ROI.
Why would any retail store offer anything that didn't have any demonstrable ROI?

Awesome job not understanding what I wrote.

The Magic Kingdom used to have a number of stores that either operated at a loss, or offered specialty items for display

To this day there's still things like the all crystal replica of Cinderella Castle on Main Street for so many thousands of dollars that probably doesn't sell that often, if ever.

I'm not saying the Tron identity program is the same kind of thing, but there is a long precedent of Disney theme parks having items if not whole stores that are there primarily to be part of the experience rather than generate a high margin of sales
Crystal Arts where they have the crystal castle is a third party shop.

But it still follows the principle of having something primarily for show vs for sale

Crystal Arts knows everyone will stop to look at it, take pictures, and be further incentivized to go into the store and browse

Understood, was just providing additional context. When I was a contractor for Disney in 2007-2008 they were one of the stores I helped out with (POS terminals) and I was friends with several people that worked there. They also have the Crystal shops in the Mexico and Germany pavilions at EPCOT and several of the global parks.

IIRC when I asked the CM's back then, they said they'd sell 1-2 of those Cinderella Castles per year

They really need a better acronym for those things...
