Disney has announced that The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will officially join the Lightning Lane Multi Pass lineup at Hollywood Studios starting September 11, 2025.

The move brings added value for guests who purchase the Multi Pass, as the previously standby-only show now becomes part of the Lightning Lane system.

How Lightning Lane Will Work for The Little Mermaid

When purchasing a Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will be prompted to choose up to three eligible experiences. The lineup is split into two tiers:

Tier 1 – Choose one experience:

  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
  • Slinky Dog Dash

Tier 2 – Choose two (or all three) experiences from this group:

  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage
  • For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Toy Story Mania!
  • The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure

Guests eligible to book Lightning Lane selections beginning August 20 will be able to reserve arrival windows for The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure starting September 11.

Unlike traditional stage shows with fixed performance schedules, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure originally operated on a continuous show format from 9:15 AM to 7:15 PM. As of June 10, Disney began listing specific showtimes, which now makes it more compatible with the Lightning Lane reservation system.

The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure officially debuted on May 27, 2025, and features live performers, puppetry, digital effects, and immersive set design. It replaces Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which closed in 2020.

I recently saw this show. Thought it was fine. Not an upgrade from the OG. But only a SLIGHT downgrade.

Other than the embarrassingly bad animation - what was a downgrade?

Probably the over-reliance of it. Though I am curious to know.

I still say animation-wise they should nix Triton and sisters. Their designs are over the uncanny valley but still ugly as heck. I think the story would work just as well without them. Or rework it so the mermaid sisters are in silhouette with an actual actor for Triton.

I agree the animation with the sisters and Triton is terrible. Like conspicuously bad and out of place and noticeable to even casual viewers. An update to that would make a huge difference in the show.

Personally I would say the show overall is even with the old one or maybe a very slight downgrade.

The tech/projections and even the story/song upgrades are well appreciated and overdue. It just makes the show seem more modern and fresh, and a little less like an old puppet show. Its entertaining.

But the lack of any water effects, such as the fog and the rain curtain is really a shame. That and the fact that there are fewer puppeteer roles.
I was wondering who had taken over for Pat Carroll voice for Ursula since she had passed? Whomever it is thier voice doesn't sound too bad but, it's off a little bit and not much of her amazing laugh she did when she use to play her.
Not having been at the park since it debuted... is this a case of trying to make LLMP look more valuable at DHS than it actually is?

OR

Does Mermaid actually fill up and not always have space for everyone in the queue?

No inside information on this one but I would guess making LLMP more valuable. Marie

I saw the show twice on my last trip, and the queue filled up thirty minutes before the next show.

Yes, i saw the show a couple of times in July and they do fill the theatre.

The frozen sing along has Lightning Lane and was never full.

(Don’t judge…. I have to see the citizens of Hollywood any way I can! Haha)

Sounds like this is actually an OK use of a LL vs something like Philharmagic, Monsters Inc, First time in forever, BATB, or Nemo.

Not a top priority, but does add value.
Probably padding up lighting lane before the coaster goes down next year, that way hotel guests have something to prebook…

They should just (word used loosely) 2D animate them, like they are in the movie. The ugly, plastic 3D stuff doesn't look anymore fitting with the real actors and actresses than 2D would. It's easier to make cheap 2D look not hideous than it is to make cheap 3D look not hideous.

(It shouldn't BE cheap animation, but apparently that's all they're willing to go for.)

For what it's worth, it's the only time I've ever approached a show and been told they were out of wheelchair spots and the group had to come back (we got our name on a list to go in the LL).

I don't know how many spots there are in each show or if that's a regular occurrence, though.
Also recently saw this and thought it was great. Funny though my husband said Disney is getting cheap and too many effects were visible. Loved leaving it and seeing characters playing with kids in Animation Courtyard.
I recently saw this and thought it was definitely an upgrade from the prior version. While I do miss the lasers and the mist effects, the animation did not bother me. I guess I need to go back and look at it a second time because apparently it's horrible animation but I honestly didn't notice. Overall I found the show to be much more compelling than the original.

I would have had Ariel sing a quick reprise of part of your world as the finale but I overall did not have a whole lot of qualms about the show.
