The BDX droids have officially landed at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Walt Disney World, and we were there for one of the first public performances.

Lifelike Movements and Personality on Display

The performance featured three of the BDX droids, Red, Oskar and Grey, roaming near the Droid Depot where the droids showed off a mix of playful animations, head tilts, blinking, and lighthearted reactions to their surroundings.

Each droid moved fluidly, with gestures that felt reactive and intentional. These aren't just roaming props - they're fully realized characters, able to convey mood and personality through motion and sound.

Where and When to See Them

The BDX droids are appearing now through August 30, Tuesday through Saturday, at these scheduled times and lcoations.

  • Near Droid Depot - 10:30am, 11:30am and 12:30pm
  • Near the Millennium Falcon - 3:00pm, 4:00pm, and 5:00pm
  • Roaming near the TIE Echelon - 6:00pm

A Glimpse at the Future of Disney Parks

These first appearances mark the next step in integrating advanced robotic characters into the parks. Developed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the BDX droids use real-time animation cues, custom hardware, and simulation-based movement to create believable characters that can adapt to guest interactions.

on-theme Star Wars storage crates? All thats left is to create them. Then scale it down as an RC toy and sell it for $60 bucks in a nearby gift shop.

I would assume the parks ops side isn't as enthusiastic as Imagineering is for adding things like this

These are cute, but I never understand why WDI insists on bringing out these great walkable kinetic characters and then limiting their runs. Every land would feel much more complete with non-human inhabitants wandering about.

yeah that part was very odd embarrassing show,,,,,was it starting to pour? Has to be a better way.

I have to admit that I’m also underwhelmed. At first are they fun to watch? Absolutely. But will I be inclined to stick around for 5-10 minutes, possibly in 100 degree heat? Nope. They’re doing their best to act like this is unscripted by involving guests, but they quickly pivot to something that is clearly already planned. They are certainly impressive technology, just not yet enough to be a long term offering. The plastic bags followed by carrying them out was hilarious and embarrassing at the same time!

Imma say it since no one else will. These things are lame. About as entertaining as watching a duck cross a road. Now, show me them recognizing colors or faces or interacting in any real, meaningful way and I'll change my tune. Lame robotic ducks.

I have no idea as the original plan was to have both characters and droids wandering every day as part of the atmosphere.

Bummer, we'll miss this by just a few hours on it's last day. Why is this limited to just Summer? Should be a permanent thing.

Until August 30th.

So I leave on Tuesday and they debut these on Wednesday. Sounds about right.

Gone, put in the trash bags and are now headed for the compactor at Runaway Railroad.

I wonder what the social media influencer to actual guest ratio was for this PR stunt?

RockishcocoJul 16, 2025

Do we know how long these guys are sticking around?
