The official Disney Parks Blog has released a great interview with legendary rockwork and environment specialist Zsolt Hormay.

Zsolt has been involved in Disney's most elaborate and spectacular exteriors in the past 20 years, including Mysterious Island at Tokyo DisneySea, the Tree of Life at Disneys Animal Kingdom, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Pandora at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris, and most recently Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.

Check out the video below and head to the official Disney Parks Blog for more of the interview.

Thank GOODNESS. I’ve been thinking about how this all lined up a few days ago. Thanks for the work!

Mike SApr 18, 2026

Yes that’s what I was referring to. The fact that both were done after the fact when they realized their mistake but with those they used real cover and not tarps with space in between.

HauntedPirateApr 18, 2026

If I’m being honest, I like the bottom one the most.

BurgermeisterApr 18, 2026

Well, the Mad Tea Party was open air for the first two years.

A chat on twitter spurred me on to do something I’ve wondered about for a while now : GE with the 2005 LMA changes superimposed : And even further back, GE with Residential Street:

GimpYancIentApr 12, 2026

Yes, it could have been done better. If the objective was to actually provide shade.

Skipping a small show not meant to be a draw is very different from skipping a brand new E ticket. I would get it if you’re scared or physically prevented from riding it.

EeyoreFan#24Apr 12, 2026

Hey…I don’t remember having this on my list. I can’t speak for 1-23 though.

Mr. EngagementApr 11, 2026

Man, it seems like just a couple months ago that all the Eeyores around here were complaining about the new shade area between SWGE and Toy Story land before it was completed. And here we are, for another round!

Mike SApr 11, 2026

Can you imagine if this is how they handled shade and cover in front of Haunted Mansion and over the Mad Tea Party way back when?

BocabearApr 10, 2026

Clearly with the greeting of "Bright Suns" the city planning committee for Black Spire would understand a need for shade...lol. I get they want it to be thematically consistent, but when it is so consistent that it fails to reach the objective, it is clearly a failure that helps no-one...Use an opaque cloth, add seating, and cover most of the area.... Create a storyline that it is a "Droid Charging Base" and add some phone chargers and lots of bench seating... Make the shade roof something impermeable for the frequent Florida rains....but don't hang up pieces of netting material that don't cover an area...with no seating and consider that a job well done....

Laugh emoji on a serious post is against the rules @Ayla @Professortango1

AylaApr 10, 2026

Well, that's embarrassing.

IncomudroApr 10, 2026

It appears as though people will really have to look down at the ground, see where the shade from the awnings is cast, get there, and hope the Earth isn't rotating too quickly.
