Splash Mountain refurbishment - February 1 2022
Posted: Tuesday February 1, 2022 11:08am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Walt Disney World's Splash Mountain at Magic Kingdom is currently closed for refurbishment, and with just over a week to go there is a lot of activity throughout the attraction.

On the upper left side, a lot of scaffolding is supporting work on the rock work.

The main drop is seeing work on the track and inside the tunnels.

The closure began January 10 and is planned to last through February 10, with a reopening to guests planned for February 11 2022. View all current and upcoming Walt Disney World refurbishments.

This closure is for routine maintenance, and will not see any changes to the show, or include any work on the upcoming transformation into the Tiana themed ride.

Disney has not yet released a closing date for Splash Mountain, or a timeline for the completion of the retheme. You can read some recent comments on the Tiana project from the Magic Kingdom Vice President here.

Well Tiana doesn’t open till 2024. So nothing the rest of the year. Barring a longer refurbishment, you can usually count on no refurbishments the week of July 4 and Christmas, granted they are the two busiest weeks of the year.

I planning a trip for when everything is open. Does anyone know of a crowd calendar that can predict that?

Everest closed last year, not this year.

Isn't the modern WDW Guest Service experience great? I think that is an old article piece. I hope Everest is open for you. I hope you have a good time anyway.

I thought it was for safety as the guests were getting hung up in the briars

It’s changing because many, like myself, are offended by rabbits. Everyone loves frogs.

So the ride is changing because??? Some free people who aren't even on the ride enjoyed their lives in "Song of the South"?

I think it fit in Frontierland just as well as CBJ does. Or Pirates in Adventureland. Or CoP in Tomorrowland. Or Small World in Fantasyland.

Diversity demands that people "fit in" anywhere and everywhere... it's simply not allowed to require conformity to time and place.

IncomudroDec 17, 2022

It looked like it fit, and seemed like it fit which was all that really mattered.

Splash mountain never fit in Frontierland. The mountain was not themed to fit either. You just liked it and were used to it. Tiana won’t fit either

RSoxNo1Dec 17, 2022

It fit in Frontierland because it was a good ride and most people didn't care. The reality is, it technically didn't fit in Frontierland.

They hired the best country instrumentalists for the soundtrack and themed the mountain to fit the land. Are we seriously doing this again?

How did splash fit in Frontierland?
