Spaceship Earth point of lights installation - April 13 2021

The first batch of 12 points of lights have been installed on the exterior of Spaceship Earth as part of the 'Beacon of Magic' lighting show coming to EPCOT later in 2021.

Debuting as part of Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration on October 1 2021, the new lighting at Spaceship Earth is a permanent addition and will live on beyond the 18 month 50th celebration event.

The fixtures, mounted between the triangular exterior panels of Spaceship Earth, appear to be high-output LED's with a silver enclosure to match the alucobond finish. The central main light that will project light outward is surrounded by smaller lights that will shine onto the surface of Spaceship Earth. Each of the lights is attached with a bracket to the structure, and also secured with a cable tether for additional security.

From the ground they are barely visible, although the first twelve are fairly high on the structure, and it remains to be seen how they will appear when much closer to the guests. The lights are not flush with the exterior, and do protrude outward, but some may like the appearance as they close the gaps between the triangular panels.

Concept art of the lighting shows what we can expect when the effect goes live later this year. According to Imagineer Zach Riddley, "Her classic look will be maintained and accentuated through new colors and intensity in programmed expressions that extend into the new main entrance fountain and the entire World Celebration area."

From what I can tell that's only 2 fonts but they manage to not clash somehow. Pretty neat. I think the "frontier" font was meant to bring in the Indigenous theming throughout the pavilion. Very weird though.

That makes my brain hurt.

That thing is awful.

If that is indeed a "Poly font", then they're doing it wrong. There's nothing about that font that fits with the them of Poly. It is indeed more modern and befitting of Epcot even if it isn't the new Epcot font. Remember, you can use more than one font.

Or did the Poly reuse it from EPCoT? :cautious:

I thought that it looked like it belonged at the Poly instead of Epcot.

Incredible, just absolutely incredible.

Wait did they just reuse the font from Poly? 🤣:banghead: Picture is from the Orlando Sentinel. But I’m almost positive it’s the same font!

I think he’s specifically referring to this font

There’s multiple of this flapless design around world showcase already, but still with the brown colour

First garbage can or first mistake of many? 😉

I love the idea of taking the parks signage and font back to the original.

Not sure what is going on with this. I think there is only one of these out. Perhaps a mistake, or maybe the first of many.

Mmm… the garbage-can-smelting-in-the-Florida-sun smell can flow freely into the air now! 🤢
