Slinky Dog Dash is back open today, September 3, at Disney's Hollywood Studios, after being closed for the better part of a week.

The ride did not operate at all on August 31 or September 1, and was closed again at opening on September 2. Before that, it saw lengthy closures of more than 4 hours on August 28 and 7 hours on August 29.

Here's a recap of the recent closures:

  • August 28: down for more than 4 hours
  • August 29: down for 7 hours
  • August 31: closed all day, did not operate
  • September 1: closed all day, did not operate
  • September 2: closed at opening, remained down
  • September 3: reopened

Disney has not said what caused the extended downtime. Wait times may run higher than usual today as pent-up demand works through the queue.

Slinky Dog Dash Reopens After Multi-Day Closure at Disney's Hollywood Studios
Slinky Dog Dash is back up and running at Hollywood Studios after nearly a week of on-and-off closures, including two full days completely offline on August 31 and September 1. No cause has been given for the extended downtime, so expect higher-than-normal wait times today as demand catches up.

Taking a long time to bend the cars back into shape...

If it's a fairly common part that has a history of needing to be replaced, they should always have extra on hand. I've been working in manufacturing for decades, and maintenance departments always have a critical parts list which require a minimum inventory of those parts to be available at all times. If it was a custom machined part that is made-to-order, than that is a different story.

You can’t always predict what’s gonna break

No, you can't, but, like I said, if it is a mass produced part that does tend to need to be replaced, you should always have some in stock.

I gotta jump in here…YES, rides broke down before the “current Disney”…they also had a much better preventative maintenance regiment. I’ve been going to WDW longer than you’ve been alive and rides never went down unexpectedly for a week at a time…rides DID go down for extended periods of time, but were planned…

Let’s look at things circa 2026… Astro Orbiter goes down weeks after extended referb, Tiana…a dumpster fire…these extended shutdowns seem to be happening with much more frequency now than at any other time in the parks history. Is it a maintenance issue? Is it the quality of replacement parts? The answers to these questions we will never know, but I’m telling you this is now the norm.

Its a lot more than 1 part. This wasnt one thing. It was about 15 things(i made that number up, but its a lot of different things that were fine that morning) that all broke simultaneously and broke other things b4 the ride was shut down. Nothing about the track itself. Its all on the second launch and the ride vehicles themselves. The amount that needs to be changed out and fixed at once is a lot.

Apparently they are changing out all the brake pads on one of the trains backstage today.

At least, thats what some ppl im friends with who work over there told me. Bit of game of telephone on this info(so probably not perfectly accurate and im not claiming it is), but i think the main point is that these things were functional and something that hasnt happened before caused a cascade of problems that now all have to be fixed.
To be fair, AИDY is like 32 now and has a job in IT. He will get to this on his next day off.
They made some modifications overnight to the ride vehicles, and it's cycling through this morning.
Closed so far this morning.
