Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement for the Imagineering trailer located just outside Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The permit lists general construction work and is tied to the trailer, which has long served as a support space for on-site WDI activity.

While the filing does not confirm what project the trailer work is related to, its proximity to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster comes after Disney announced a Muppets-themed reimagining of the attraction. That overhaul is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the ride remaining open through the end of 2025.

The new permit may indicate early prep work for the creative and logistical planning needed for the upcoming transformation. It’s common for WDI to set up nearby infrastructure and staging areas ahead of major in-park changes.

No timeline or new project details have been shared as part of the permit. Disney previously revealed that the Muppets will take over the ride, teaming up with music stars for a “rockin’ music festival” storyline.

An actual good use of Tiana’s plot.

It’s 2025. The actual meaning goes over any kids’ head. The song is so tame by modern standards lol.

I think the Muppets are a dated form of slapstick humor that just does not resonate with younger people. The last handful of shows have been cancelled after one season due to low viewership, Including the most recent Electric Mayhem one. Aerosmith couldn’t stick around forever, but it had a certain cool edge to it that worked across generations, which Muppets lacks. The Muppets are owned by Parks and Resorts for some reason, literally the only studio IP they own, so that’s probably why they continue trying to twist this into something that works, even though it’s probably past its expiration date. They can claim this is a big success for the Muppets brand even though it’s nearly impossible to make Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster boring. I’m glad the ride is staying conceptually similar though!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the "modern" Mickey shorts ALSO "high octane and rambunctious"? THAT got a dark ride. One of the biggest problems is that the zany fast-paced animation clashes with the slow-moving trackless ride vehicles. So, no, the Muppets aren't well-suited for a trackless dark ride, but I think they'd lend themselves fine to a normal busbar (not that Disney actually builds normal busbars anymore, of course). And besides, the Muppets aren't always "high octane and rambunctious". It's not like every second of every production is just them running around screaming like they just had fifty cups of coffee each. My suggestion: use Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek over in Tokyo Disneyland as a basis. The attraction's premise could be that the Muppets are performing at the Hollywood Bowl or something (which would fit the theme of HOLLYWOOD Studios as an added bonus!) but the Muppets are scattered around California doing their own thing and it's ten minutes until showtime. Thus, Kermit and Fozzie enlist our help to find the others, and we head out into the night, zipping around California and finding animatronic Muppets all over the place. Once we've found them all, we head back to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Muppets perform, Statler and Waldorf heckle us as we pull into the unload area, exits to your left, buy a T-Shirt on your way out, blah blah blah...

I distinctly recall a poster on here - not gonna give away any names - telling me that the Muppets weren't well-suited for a dark ride because they're "by nature high octane and rambunctious" and "the energy just isn't there." like...what? there are so many other ways to convey that energy that wouldn't alienate a significant portion of the audience they're pacifying. detail it to the hilt - fill it with gags, kinetics, and animatronics aplenty, go gangbusters on the special effects, maybe make the ride vehicles active in some way...that pretty much would be the best option for them that isn't a show (relocated or otherwise). you know that argument is ridiculous when WDI themselves had a Muppets dark ride in the pipeline during the early days of the Studios

I don't think it actually does. IF Disney wanted to, the area near RNRC should be able to be developed in the future to accomodate it especially based on AC plans.

And Muppet Babies.

A large percentage, since most of them grew up watching Sesame Street.

Nonsense of the highest order!

I just realized. MuppetVision closing basically torpedoes any chance of them doing a Muppets dark ride like we've been clamoring for. Not that the chances of it were very high already. Same goes for me.

No clue. According to AI “Kermit the Frog is widely considered one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in popular culture. His distinctive green color, expressive features, and relatable personality have resonated with audiences of all ages for decades. He is a beloved figure from both Sesame Street and the Muppet Show, and his image is instantly recognizable worldwide” Also on a list of 100 most recognized characters, Kermit was in the middle. With Mickey Mouse being #1 and Shrek being towards the end of the list.

No one has heard of him. What percentage of under 20 year olds have heard of Kermit the Frog these days?

No one in your family has heard of Kermit the frog? He’s one of the most recognizable characters ever - certainly more so than Clarabelle cow!
