Disney says Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster will remain open through 2025, with work on the previously announced Muppets-themed reimagining beginning in 2026.
The ride’s current version, featuring Aerosmith, will continue to operate at Disney’s Hollywood Studios while development continues behind the scenes on the updated concept. Disney has not yet shared a closure date for the attraction, but confirms that guests will have the rest of 2025 to ride before the transformation begins.
Back in November 2024, Disney officially announced that the Muppets would replace Aerosmith in the long-running thrill ride. According to the announcement, the Muppets will “team up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” Specifics about the storyline and show scenes have not been released.
The update follows years of speculation about the future of the attraction and Aerosmith’s involvement. In 2023, Jeff Yorkes—co-creator of The Muppets Mayhem—hinted at the idea on Twitter, noting that a Muppets takeover had been part of an original pitch for the Disney+ series.
Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster reopened in 2024 after a months-long refurbishment focused on the ride system and lighting effects. That refresh did not alter the attraction’s theme or soundtrack, but the 2026 reimagining will mark a full creative overhaul.
The Muppets coaster project is part of a broader reshaping of the Muppets’ presence in the park. MuppetVision 3D will permanently close at the end of operations today, with the theater space repurposed for the upcoming Monsters Inc. land.
