Pirates of the Caribbean Gets Updated Cast Costumes at Disney World

Cast members at Magic Kingdom’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction will soon be sporting updated costumes, marking a refresh to the wardrobe seen throughout this corner of Adventureland. The new look will be worn not only by attraction cast but also by tcast working in the adjacent merchandise shop and tavern area.

The updated costumes retain the rugged aesthetic of Caribbean pirates and traders, with layered fabrics, muted earthy tones, and a lived-in texture. One version includes cropped pants, a faded vest, and a striped shirt, while another features a wide-brimmed hat and a longer tunic with sash accents.

These changes are part of a broader effort to enhance costuming across Walt Disney World, with Main Street U.S.A. cast recently getting an update.

Reminds me a bit much of Halloween costumes.
Can anyone post an old one for comparison? I almost feel like they went similar to Batuu where the CMs have some options (like the hat) which I personally think is great.

Those look great! Make many a CM envious. Heck, I want one!

Yeah I like the new ones a lot better
These are the first redone costumes I do not think are a big downgrade.
I like the idea of plug and play pieces to make each cast member feel a bit more unique and like a real pirate, but some of these final designs are a miss for me. They're a little costumey, and the modern day shoes are really breaking the illusion for me. Some of these outfits look like a pirate outfit out of things you'd already have in the closet. I think my biggest issue is that they look cheap without the vest/sash on, at least one of the two should be a required piece of the costume at all times. The guy in the second photo looks like a cast member on his break trying to be incognito moving around on stage. I don't think a kid would immediately recognize him as a cast member, and that's a problem. Compared to the previous iteration, I also think the high socks are really missing here too, the bare calfs feel wrong to me. This redesign is very close to getting it right, but the magic kingdom costumes should feel a bit more whimsical. Hopefully they refine the look's best practices a bit more.

That seems fair as far as certain options being required - as for the shoes I think when working the attraction or the tavern I think guests really won't notice vs when outside like where these videos were taken
All of these photos are straight on and do not show the most important thing: is there still a feather in the hat? That is essential.

And do they call it macaroni?
I agree the older costumes were more clearly “I’m a CM” in appearance - some of the versions of this costume shown look pretty casual.

But the over all design works.

I’m not sure where the balance should be - ideally a uniform is… uniform, but allowing some individual choices can be nice.
Looks great. Two hats, two pants (one short). Two shirt prints, with one being lined for colder weather and for a contrasting cuff and also a short sleeve. Two sashes. A belt that could be by itself or over the sash.

It is though also a costume. Everyone wearing the same thing would stick out as odd in other storytelling mediums.

I agree. Especially “lived in” environments like galaxies edge.

Exactly.

I'm a big fan of this move toward "customizable" costumes. I wish it had been an option when I worked Attractions.
