Na'vi River Journey overview
Posted: Monday July 13, 2026 5:14pm ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Na'vi River Journey has been closed for an extended period today at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The attraction did not open for early entry at 7:30am, and as of 5:15pm, it remains down.

Animal Kingdom closes at 7pm today. With less than two hours left in the operating day, it's unclear if Na'vi River Journey will reopen before closing.

If you had this attraction on your must-do list, check for wait times on the My Disney Experience app before heading to Pandora. If you're still hoping to ride, keep an eye on the app for updates as the evening goes on.

We'll update this story if Na'vi River Journey reopens today.

I know it's short but i still enjoy riding it every time.

Aren't all of the waterfalls on NRJ also screens and not real waterfalls? I haven't been on it in a while

This seems to happen to us regardless of the the time of year. I know they want to reduce the wait time as much as possible, but those boats were not made to fit four adults in a row. It makes what I find to be an otherwise extremely enjoyable ride uncomfortable and awkward. And I'm a pretty skinny dude that doesn't generally have issues sitting next to strangers. If you told me that Disney invented Ozempic just for laughs to see how many people they could shove into the NRJ boats, I would believe you.

Figments Friend25 days ago

Yes. Would love some additional creatures, or perhaps turning a couple of the screen based critters into actual figures. Viperwolves and the deer like Hexapede would be perfect AA additions. Extra mile would be an additional Na’vi figure, such as the guide who greets us in one of the first scenes of the Attraction. -

Looks like it - 45 minute wait is currently listed.

Is the ride back in operation today?

In summer that means riders (from the same party) get crammed together in one row, tighter than they do on the other boat rides, as if we aren't all sweating enough already. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but also not very comfortable either. I find I like Living with the Land a little better, but partly because I like real plants over fake ones. Speaking of fake plants, the color has really faded off many of the outdoor fake plants in Pandora. I also noticed that some of the really nice air plants are gone. They probably didn't make it through the cold this past winter. There were some really big air plants on the bridge near the ride's exit. Hopefully they get replaced.

It is okay, IMO. I like the immersion. I like the little creatures hopping about on the giant leaves. While I generally like animatronics, this is one of my least favorites ones. I find the singing voice a bit grating. It has the same boat backup problem that small world does. I usually go on it, because AK has so few total attractions, and it is overall okay, but it isn't worth a long wait. Also, the small boats mean that the CM's try to cram more people per row. but I really opened this thread to say the ride was acting oddly last month when I was there. There was along back-up at the end and they were loading/unloading it somewhat oddly. There appeared to be some sort of problem with the loading area, but I couldn't say what it was.

I think the intimacy of the ride requires a smaller boat. There are less things fighting for your attention in NRJ as opposed to Pirates or Small World. I think if it had bigger boats, more people would be distracted by Guest Behavior. Less of a chance of guests injecting their own commentary or "humor" breaking the immersion it desperately needs.

The wait times for fantasyland dark rides are often comparable at all castle parks. But it does beg the question…. Why was it designed with such small boats? Couldn’t it easily have double the capacity with the pirate / small world boats?

Agreed, but depends on the wait

UNCgolf25 days ago

Absolutely. It's possibly the best C ticket on property, and it's also probably the best example of how to effectively use screens/projections on any Disney ride (at least at WDW). Most of the complaints boil down to people being annoyed it's not a D or an E ticket (likely due to the wait times). Of course it would be better if it was longer and had more AAs... but then it's at least a D if not an E. I'd love that, but that was never the intention. I actually like it more than Flight of Passage. Flight of Passage is definitely more impressive on an initial ride, but it wears off pretty quickly (and I don't mean dozens of rides; I've been on it four times total) because it's missing the immersion. It makes a big difference that you're actually inhabiting a physical space in NRJ whereas FoP is mostly just watching a (very beautiful) movie.

Needs more AAs.

Pandora needs a third ride to help River Journey. Better pray that expansion happens.
