Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement for the address corresponding to the former Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The permit lists PCL Construction Services, Inc., one of Disney's major contractors, with a scope of General Construction.

PCL is also currently leading construction on the nearby Muppet Theater transformation, which is being reimagined into The Glob Theater - a new venue that will host a Monsters, Inc.-themed stage show.

The new Monstropolis land will feature:

  • Harryhausen's Restaurant - a full-service dining experience inspired by the iconic sushi restaurant from Pixar's Monsters, Inc.
  • The Glob Theater - home to a new show based on the film.
  • A flying door rollercoaster - set inside the familiar door warehouse seen in the movie.

Mama Melrose's closed earlier this year after more than three decades of operation. This latest filing suggests that interior renovation and site work are ready to begin as the former dining space is transformed into Harryhausen's.

Disney has not yet announced an opening date for the new Monsters, Inc. Land, but progress on multiple areas of the site are encouraging signs of rapid progress.

Curious why they didn't pour concrete "all at once" like they did for Cosmic Rewind

It seems like practical considerations might actually point towards fewer preshows - less staffing, less complex ops, etc.

I don’t think anyone knows yet. Maybe the updated photos will shed some light to those who can sort it out. ETA:

question, does it appear that they are building the coaster then the building like Tron, or they building the building then the track inside like GOTG

It will probably be a single pass at least when it first opens, I think the only new big attraction to not follow this trend was Tiana’s. It’s assumed that’s because Disney knew the capacity and how to run the attraction efficiently. Cant see a world where this doesn’t open with VQ and single pass.

I'm guessing this will go on LLMP when it debuts as a tier 1... I wonder if it will knock something out of tier 1 (like TT did with Soarin). Im guessing MFSR drops to a tier 2.

I had kind of assumed that they were gonna focus on doing the coaster first and then work their way forward. But with how much they’re doing in the front I wonder if the plan is to start at each end and meet in the middle.

I could just be that it's more complicated to remove. Going to need a crane to do that.

I'm surprised the PizzeRizzo sign is still up. I wonder if that means they'll be re-using it for Monsters Land or Rock N Rollercoaster, or if they just haven't removed it yet.
