Disney Shares Monstropolis Land Design Details and Possible Glob Theater Show Name at D23

Disney is giving fans a closer look at the upcoming Monstropolis land at D23 this weekend, with a dedicated display showcasing design details and physical models from the new area coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The Monstropolis exhibit features a mood board showing the design inspiration behind the land's neighborhoods, including sketches and concept renderings. The board references "Old Town Monstropolis" as one of the land's distinct areas, with the tagline "The City Frightful" appearing alongside the Monstropolis logo. Signage within the display also references the land's design philosophy — "Designing on Monsterous Scales" — giving a sense of how Walt Disney Imagineering is approaching the architectural language of the monster city.

Monstropolis at D23: Design Mood Board and Monster Maquettes on Display

One detail spotted in the D23 display may also hint at the name of the new show coming to the Glob Theater. Concept art visible on the mood board shows a theater marquee reading "Welcome to Monstropolis! With Sulley & Mike." It's not yet clear whether this is the actual show title or simply placeholder text used for design purposes, but it's the first time anything resembling a show name has appeared in Disney's official materials. The Glob Theater is being built inside the former MuppetVision 3D building, and Disney has not yet made any official announcement about what guests will experience inside.

Monstropolis at D23: Design Mood Board and Monster Maquettes on Display

Also on display are painted maquettes of monster-fied versions of everyday critters — a pigeon, a squirrel, and a rabbit — all given the full monster treatment with horns, claws, and oversized features.

The mood board visible in the display references the land's central story premise — the transition from "Scare City" to H.U.M.A.N. Day hosts — reinforcing the narrative of Monstropolis opening its doors to human guests for the first time.

Disney has not yet announced an opening date for Monstropolis, but we expect to hear a lot more about this over the weekend at D23.
