Disney Reveals Updated Monsters, Inc. Concept Art at Hollywood Studios Construction Site

As construction is set to begin on the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests can now get an updated look at what’s to come, thanks to revised concept art featured on the newly installed construction walls at the former Grand Park area.

The artwork displayed on the themed walls includes several notable changes compared to the original version released late last year.

The Monstro Theater is now “The Glob”: The theater replacing MuppetVision 3D has been renamed The Glob, and features a completely redesigned entrance facade.

Revised Fountain Design: The original art showed a Mike Wazowski-themed fountain in the center of the land’s courtyard. In the new version, the fountain appears much closer in design to the current MuppetVision 3D fountain, minus Miss Piggy. The updated centerpiece suggests Disney may be preserving more of the area’s original layout than initially expected.

Vehicles Removed from the Street: The earlier concept featured themed monster-style vehicles populating the land’s main thoroughfare.

Slight Revisions to the Entrance Gateway: The arched entrance to the new land has been slightly modified in the latest artwork, showing more refined design elements.

I don't think any of the concept art really shows what that plaza part will look like. The amount of space from show building to land is just too great for there not to be something missing from the concept art. (even if it is just a bigger plaza or facades).

You could probably just do incredibly basic cityscape facade painting on it and it’d look fine from the distance at which it’d be viewable. But I’m also not quite convinced that the rear courtyard is going to manifest exactly as it does in the art. The math is not mathing on some of the real proportions versus the new rendering, which feels a bit like it was hastily altered in the same way that the CommuniCore Plaza art was. The latter resulted in weird things like the World Showcase being blotted out by trees where none ever existed in order to cover up the Festival Center.

Skepticism only, for discussions sake. Even with a great berm, it’s odd to have it just boxed in by a forest on either side. Also fair to say this is the newest change and perhaps not fully committed one way or the other.

I’ll throw out a point of skepticism! I’m really not convinced this area is being handled correctly. The street scape (or frankly usable building) should continue now that the show building is pushed back to cover Rise backstage. Also not entirely convinced a go away forest will be manifesting to the extent the concept art purports unless they build a berm.

I share your opinion on food with regard to dining across the wider resort over the last decade. Honestly, the one part of the resort that needs a major boost in food quality is, unfortunately, the MK. I really enjoy Skipper Canteen. But after that it’s pretty much meh. Typically, on MK park days we will eat lunch and dinner outside the park at the monorail resorts. There are excellent food options there. But thinking over the more recent additions during the past decade’s expansions and additions, Tiffins/Nomad Lounge, Satu’li Canteen, Docking Bay 7, Three Bridges, Geyser Point, the new restaurants at the Japan Pavilion, I could go on and on here…my wife and I love them and feel that good food options have really improved and increased site wide. I am looking forward to Harryhausens and feel they could do this location justice.

Not sure if this is new, but I hadn't seen before but in the latest photos from Bio you can see part of the parking lot cut up/work being done at the edges of the expansion area for the door coaster

Many of the AK and AKL restaurants have good menus that aren't typical from Harambe Market to Sanaa to Tusker House. Skippers in MK. Rontos in DHS Spice Road Table in EPCOT. That's just those operated by Disney.

They'd be dumb not to do a sushi spot. Doesn't need to be authentic. Can just be americanized vaguely Asian food mix (look at the dragon place at epic for inspiration). If its a themed table service they can do it prix fixed for $55 - drink, noodle salad or soup, entree (sushi roll /bao/ramen), and a themed desert. It'd be super easy and have super quick table turnovers. After a year add on a la carte options but keep the prix fixe menu options.
