Walt Disney Imagineering has filed two new permits today related to the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed theater show planned for the former MuppetVision 3D theater at Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The first permit is assigned to Jon Richards Company, a longtime partner of Disney known for its custom theme park fabrication work. The company has a long track record in producing physical sets and show elements for Disney Parks projects, suggesting that significant interior work is about to begin inside the retired Muppets theater space.

The second permit is assigned to Solotech, a global provider of AV systems. Solotech specializes in integrated audio, lighting, and video environments - including wrap-around projection screens and immersive surround sound setups - suggesting that the new show will make heavy use of multimedia technology.

Disney has not yet officially announced any details of the theater show, but it is expected to complement the new Monsters, Inc. coaster and help anchor the broader Monstropolis expansion replacing the former Muppets Courtyard area.

Did you imply others who prefer those replacements only do so because they’re dumb, stupid or brainwashed? If you did, then yes demeaning opposing views by claiming superiority makes you elitist — by definition. If you didn’t, then no your unique preferences don’t make you elitist.

This was a deliberate choice btw. Preachy counterargument served to very preachy critics

Let’s examine that analogy. How is McDonald's selling billions if it’s garbage? Why is it garbage? Because it’s unhealthy or doesn’t taste good to you? How about the need it fulfills as an inexpensive, quick, or guilty-pleasure meal? Just because it doesn’t provide you a value proposition doesn’t mean it doesn’t for others, or that people who enjoy it are stupid. Food cannot and should not only come from Michelin star restaurants. It would be an awfully boring and uninteresting world if it did. The Oscars are a good example — increasingly favoring niche, artsy, indy films and increasingly irrelevant as a result. Long are the days when people saw their favorite film win Best Picture. We’ll be lucky if winners make anything in the box office these days Business cannot survive if they cater to the wishes of the smug, cynical, elitist few.

You’re criticizing Cosmic Rewind for not keeping with Epcot’s theme while also criticizing Disney for not making a Marvel mini-land around it (which would be far, far off Epcot’s theme). It’s not clear you have any coherent argument Elitists can’t be criticized? The difference is i didn’t call anyone dumb, I’m calling out the ones who did. Preachy is criticizing an entertainment company for entertaining people; claiming those people are dumb and just being brainwashed.

The only functionality of those scenes is just because of their iconography. I actually would have not included them if I was starting from scratch. Also, a major factor for the abbreviated caves was because at the time they were still expecting to build WRE eventually.

I'm very much on Team WDW-Pirates, but I don't think this is completely accurate. Why is the fort full of skeletons? Why is there a skeleton pirate piloting a shipwreck before the drop? I think Time-Travel is still happening here.

That isn't really a fair assessment. MK's is indeed shorter but the backstory and governing logic are completely different. In the DL version you start in New Orleans Square ride through the Bayou, encounter the talking skull and splash down into the grotto sequence after the treasure cave you go through a transition tunnel that takes you back in time to the Caribbean in the 18th Century where the majority of the attraction takes place. After you pass what is now Jack in the Treasure room you go up the waterfall which takes you back to the "Present Day" and you disembark your boat and return to New Orleans Square. The idea in Magic Kingdom is that you are already in the Caribbean and the entrance to the ride is actually the building the Wicked Wench is firing at in the attraction there even used to be firing mist cannons on the roof of the facade to indicate this. The queue was originally designed so that you could even hear the Spanish soldiers warning about the pirates and reporting for duty to open fire on the pirates. Sadly, in 2006 when they shoved Jack in, they decided to blast the "Pirates Overture" music from the queue of the DL version into the WDW queue, and it sadly has remained that way ever since. The boat in the distance in the load area is supposed to be the pirate ship "Wicked Wench" you see later. The Grotto scenes in the Florida version are supposed to exist in the same time period as the town scenes unlike in DL. and the rest is pretty straight forward. Sadly, since WDI is headquartered in California and are mostly familiar with the DL version and incorrectly thought the Florida version was just an abbreviated version of the California version with the same backstory so a lot of these details especially with the exterior cannons and the queue are hard to discern since the Imagineers of the time mis-understood the premise of the Florida incarnation.

It should be absolutely without question, for all of eternity and forever more untouchable. And "better?" Yeah, the current crop at Disney can't come close to doing better. More popular, yeah sure. I use this analogy for music and all forms of entertainment: McDonald's sells billions of hamburgers. Garbage the people happily scoff down.

Exactly… Though you don’t “experience” it…you ride it…see it…eat it…buy it That term is brainwashing (I’ve mentioned this one before…similar to a call from inside the house)

I think Marvel was a great purchase The problem is overexploitation and running it into the ground Mission: accomplished

usually the replacements make the parks more like a ride park and provide one more attraction that I can’t experience with my mom. Does that make me an elitist?

ChrisFL13 hours ago

Right. Yes, DL's POTC is incredible and should never be replaced. WDW's is like a summarized version and I think the Shanghai Pirates is a marvel of engineering and very thrilling from what I've seen that would work better (DISCLAIMER I've not been to Shanghai, but can guess if I'm blown away by a video ridethru, that the actual would be better). I can understand why people might not like it being the storyline from the movies but I think it's great.

Do we have SQFT estimate for how big this coaster building is? It seems absolutely massive
