Monsters Inc. Coaster Concept Model Track Layout

Walt Disney Imagineering is showing off a new concept model that details the track layout of the upcoming Monsters, Inc. rollercoaster coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

In describing the new Monsters, Inc. land, Disney says that it will pick up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios' film, where humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it's not a true visit without the factory itself. You'll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door.

You'll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. The coaster will put you right in the middle of the monster action.

Work on the project is slated to begin in 2025, although Disney has yet to announce where the new land will be located in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Two possible locations appear possible, with the most likely being in the existing Animation Courtyard and into backstage areas. Another option exists in the Grand Avenue and Muppets area.

I am one of those who is firmly against Zootopia in DAK (but alas...) but I don't really understand the general negative feelings towards the property on these boards. It was a great move and even has had some solid follow up stuff (shorts on D+) plus has a second film coming out. I'd love to see the property brought to WDW... in the right place and in the right manner. Putting it in DHS is the right location, though I'd want to see something more expansive than just the ride in Shanghai. DHS would need a land with 3 attractions IMHO.

Assuming that they are doing this "right" (and there are indications they are vacating the old Animation Bldg office space with plans to remove it), the "next" expansion space should be right next to Monsters In as the backspace space beyond Animation courtyard is huge and has plenty of room for multiple lands - plus it needs to be connected to the RNR area. After they fully develop that large footprint that is currently backstage? I'd personally suggesting replacing the IJ stunt show and build into the parking lot a bit for more space. Or alternatively removing the BatB theater and using the adjacent expansion pad for a (smallish) land. Also, there is an expansion pad in Galaxy's Edge plus space there already set up for a table service restaurant.

I do wonder what is seen as the “next” expansion plot after Animation Courtyard.

Thats kinda why i think we may sadly have to think of how to keep muppets at wdw beyond MV3D. They’re gonna wanna expand galaxies edge eventually.

I do think whenever Disney wants to do something with SWGE, muppets is back in trouble.

It’s replacing the Boardwalk bakery place…….. they realised the Doors Coaster could open sooner.

Have we heard whether the Monsters Coaster is replacing Journey of Water or Connections?
