In the latest episode of We Call It Imagineering, titled "Let's Ride," Portfolio Executive Creative Producer Michael Hundgen shared new details about the upcoming Monsters, Inc. door coaster coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

The highly anticipated attraction, set to be part of the new Monsters, Inc. land in 2027, aims to capture the energy and excitement of the memorable door vault sequence from the original Pixar film.

A Suspended Coaster with a Dynamic Ride Experience

During the episode, Hundgen describes the new suspended coaster ride, designed to mimic the fast-paced and chaotic movement seen in the film's iconic door vault chase scene. "You look at it and you go, I need to be suspended. I need my legs flaring all over the place as I'm just missing doors and thematic elements. It's going to be really fun," Hundgen explained.

He also noted that riders will be able to see other coaster trains throughout the building, enhancing the sense of energy and motion. "To see that kind of energy very much mimics the sensation that we saw in the actual Monsters, Inc. door vault," Hundgen said.

A Unique Launch System Inspired by the Film

Hundgen described the attraction's unique starting sequence, which aims to recreate the memorable moment from Monsters, Inc. where the claw grabs a door, lifts it into position, and sends it into the chaotic vault system. "That iconic scene in the film where the claw kind of grabs the door and lifts the door up to shoot it out into the vault — we're recreating that," Hundgen revealed.

The ride will begin with this dramatic lift before launching guests into the door vault through a boosted acceleration system. "That sensation alone… that's a wow moment," he added.

Hundgen also teased that the queue experience will build excitement before guests even board the ride. "Just from the moment you board the vehicle, you're standing in the queue line and you're watching all this dynamic stuff happening around you — just the anticipation for this ride is going to be insane," Hundgen said.

He explained that the queue will feature multiple lift systems that are constantly in motion, enhancing the feeling that guests are inside the bustling door vault environment. "At any given time, one [lift] will be going up, another will be going down," he explained.

Bringing Monstropolis to Life

Hundgen described how this new attraction fits into Imagineering's larger goal of turning memorable movie moments into immersive real-world experiences. "This is exactly, I think, what we as Imagineers are so fortunate to get to do — you have these iconic moments from this film where you want to go live that experience," he said. "Whether it was having the chance to race with Lightning and Mater or getting to actually ride a door in the door vault, you want to step into a Cars environment or into Monstropolis — we get to recreate these moments from the screen into real life, you actually get to live it."

Man I hope you're right, but I'm not so sure. I'm sure they will try, but methinks at least some sights and sounds are gonna bleed over.

Finding Nemo being this low on a lot of people's lists is insane when there's tons of people out there that exclusively refer to certain species of fish only by the names of their CGI cartoon character counterpart over 20 years later.

I have to agree I think that's spot on! Yet I'm still hoping somehow some way he holds a little bit more noticeable regard for the parks than the prior ones did.

And you are sure of that…how? Reddit forums or did you do a paper on it in college? 🤓

You will almost certainly not be able to hear Cars from HM and you will most definitely not be able to see it

It’s not comparing quality 1:1…nobody is doing that It’s the breaking of the theme consistency and “all senses” world building that was the thing Like having some steel beast with a Batman logo on it parked next to an old west shooting gallery… Disney doesn’t do that… …unless in a few years you’re waiting for your tour of a 19th century upstate New York manor while Larry the cable guy can be heard on speakers 100 feet away…

I certainly don't. I am now cautiously optimistic now actually whether that means D'Amaro will actually be better or not remains to be seen but I like what I have seen with Buzz, BTM and COP. Again, though I don't know if that can be directly traced to the new leadership or not. That being said I am not expecting a lot of the structural damage done under Iger to ever be repaired sadly.

The last six flags I was at was Great America by Chicago around 2008, 09ish. Is it still called that? Anyway, at Studios now and I get the comparisons somewhat, somewhat, as far as different themes being thrown together. But if anyone is saying quality wise, and i don't think anyone really is, Studios is far and above.

That is a concept that didn't even cross my mind. Perhaps because I started out my life after school in a war zone. That does tend to create a more objective expectation then many others had. Sorry but this is pretty wordy. My first career job was as a retail store manager. The only possible qualification I had was my 4 years as an Inventory Management specialist in the USAF. I was hired into a business that had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peal. The banana won. Second Job was working in publishing. Worked my way up to General Manager of the Printing/Publishing business it became. Problem you ask? Yes, the owner was a full blown alcoholic who was brilliant when sober, but I had to spend most of my time calming down employees that he either offended or were scared by him. Third Job was owner/manager of the level 4 nursing home. The only qualification I had for that was a wife that was an RN looking for a independent occupation and I was good at repairing things and doing the bookkeeping. It eventually evolved into my operating it by myself while my wife pursued more education. We had a good reputation in the community and then since most of my clients were people placed by either social services or mental health services. Out of the blue they decided that everyone in any of those group homes would be happier living on their own and started taking clients and putting them in local apartments on their own. I had to file for bankruptcy and forfeit all the physical assets connected with it. Forth Job (was in conjunction with the third job for a few years) was as an Office Manager for an Earth Moving Company. That was an interesting job but yet another owner that seemed to be constantly angry. Was narcissistic, unpredictable and just a jerk most of the time. Fifth Job was in real estate sales and real estate management. Never wanted to do that but the opportunity came up so I took the courses and got my R. E. Salesman License. Do to my lifelong tendency to have godawful timing, at that same. point the housing bubble in the 1990's popped. Had to move on to whatever I could get. Sixth Job was as working as a clerk in a large commercial construction company doing payroll and Accounts Payable. I don't guess that was a bad job except for the fact that I hated it with a passion that I can't begin to even express. Seventh and final job was driving municipal buses which was probably the most fun I had working in my entire career(s). Yes, I was responsible for the lives of all my passengers, but since I was in the same bus with them I figured if I didn't do anything to harm myself the chances were pretty good that they would be getting to their destination safe and sound. By now, you might guess I was getting pretty "long in the tooth" so I applied for and got a management job within that same organization taking me to retirement. Eighth Job... Retirement, things are going fairly well with this one. I've got a very strong feeling, however, that I won't get out of this one alive. After all that my point was that if anyone expects that their life will go exactly as planned it is not the most likely thing that will happen. I was lucky and cursed at the same time because I generally knew I wanted to be in Management but other than that no expectations or dreams about a specific field were involved. One can see that I moved around but mostly from boredom and lack of personal accomplishment. (also had a family to house, feed, clothe and educate) Even in the end where I enjoyed the job, it wasn't the answer to my quest. I am left with just the thought that even though I never reached the highest levels in what would be considered a career and just about every move I made was an improvement in some area, but it was never a "this is it" moment. In other words my life turned out to be nothing that I assumed it would be, even with the modest expectations that I had in college. Not a failure not a star, but just someone that tried to find something that probably didn't exist. I also helped raise a good family that I am proud of and I think they are proud of me. What for, I haven't a clue, but whatever it was, it made me feel like a person that might have done better but due to situations no one can anticipate I managed to make it to the point of contentment, love and pride in what I did accomplish.

If people were literally talking about going to a six flags…I’d agree But that’s not why it’s being brought up
