New Aerial Photos Show Foundation Progress on Monsters Inc. Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios

New aerial photos taken by bioreconstruct  November 30 show major progress at the future site of Monstropolis, the upcoming land at Disney's Hollywood Studios anchored by a Monsters, Inc.-themed roller coaster.

The pictures show foundation work for the highly anticipated flying door coaster, which will become Disney's first-ever suspended roller coaster. Roughly 10% of the coaster's foundation has been poured so far, with rebar and support pilings in place across much of the footprint.

If past indoor coaster projects are any indication, we can expect the track to be installed first, followed by the construction of the ride building that will enclose the entire attraction - similar to how TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind were staged during their buildouts.

Elsewhere in the area, work continues across the former Muppets Courtyard, which is being transformed into the streets of Monstropolis. All of the existing concrete has been removed, and the foundations of the former Stage 1 Company Store have been completely filled in, clearing the site for future vertical construction.

The new coaster will feature a vertical lift and send guests soaring through a recreation of the door vault scene from Monsters, Inc., first teased during D23 in 2024 and highlighted again at SXSW 2025. The attraction will be the centerpiece of the Monstropolis land, which replaces the former MuppetVision 3D area and surrounding backstage lots.

Stay tuned for more updates as construction ramps up and the first coaster supports rise above the site in the coming months.

Curious why they didn't pour concrete "all at once" like they did for Cosmic Rewind

It seems like practical considerations might actually point towards fewer preshows - less staffing, less complex ops, etc.

I don’t think anyone knows yet. Maybe the updated photos will shed some light to those who can sort it out. ETA:

question, does it appear that they are building the coaster then the building like Tron, or they building the building then the track inside like GOTG

It will probably be a single pass at least when it first opens, I think the only new big attraction to not follow this trend was Tiana’s. It’s assumed that’s because Disney knew the capacity and how to run the attraction efficiently. Cant see a world where this doesn’t open with VQ and single pass.

I'm guessing this will go on LLMP when it debuts as a tier 1... I wonder if it will knock something out of tier 1 (like TT did with Soarin). Im guessing MFSR drops to a tier 2.

I had kind of assumed that they were gonna focus on doing the coaster first and then work their way forward. But with how much they’re doing in the front I wonder if the plan is to start at each end and meet in the middle.

I could just be that it's more complicated to remove. Going to need a crane to do that.

I'm surprised the PizzeRizzo sign is still up. I wonder if that means they'll be re-using it for Monsters Land or Rock N Rollercoaster, or if they just haven't removed it yet.
