This weekend marks your final opportunity to experience It's Tough to be a Bug! at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The long-running 3D attraction inside the Tree of Life Theater will close permanently after its final performances on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

It's Tough to be a Bug! has been part of Animal Kingdom since the park opened in 1998. The attraction blends 3D effects, animatronics, and in-theater sensory effects to immerse guests in the world of Pixar's A Bug's Life. The show is best known for its memorable finale, where black widow spiders, hornets, and other insects create an intense — and often surprising — experience for guests.

The closure will make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, a new show debuting in winter 2025. The upcoming attraction will transport guests to the biomes of Zootopia, featuring familiar characters from the 2016 film.

If you want to experience It's Tough to be a Bug! one last time, this weekend is your final chance before the curtains close for good.

Operating hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on the final day, March 16, 2025. Early entry is available for resort hotel guests from 7:30 am.

I’m personally not interested in a Zootopia land in the US unless it’s a whole new one using a different location within the universe. I don’t want them to start making Shanghai’s Zootopia land the new World of Frozen where they just copy and paste it all over the place.

I used to be against a Zootopia land at AK, but I think they should add it to the North of Kalli. But before that I’d add the Lion King log flume from Paris and ideally an Avatar coaster or Shanghai Pirates’ tech if not. Below Everest could easily support Jungle Book or ideally a new Continent. It’d be cool if they made an indoor/outdoor Dinosaur land with an Ice Age area done right unlike Dinoland, but I doubt that. Australia or the Pacific would be cool, but I’d save Moana for Hollywood Studios or MK, as for Australia I honestly think an Arctic/Antarctic land would be cooler, particularly, like I said, you make it mostly indoors. It’s a smaller plot, but it’d work. I really don’t think Better Together show lasts anywhere near as long as ITTBAB, but it’ll be fine enough for what it’s going for into the 2030s at least.

It will be hard to replacement because Zootopia is more money driven than a new IP like "Hoppers". It's about time that since Iger is stepping down, brand recognition alone cannot warrant a mediocre/subpar attraction.

It is too bad Zootopia went into the Tree of Life. The show is boring. It’s not at all as engaging as ITTBAB. One and done for us. We won’t do the attraction again while Zootopia is in there. I did not leave feeling the same disappointment as I did with the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, but it wasn’t a show worthy of such a prominent theme park location, and as a replacement for what was actually a nice attraction. Leaving an attraction feeling bored is not good. Downgrade for sure.

Saw Hoppers yesterday and agree with others that it’s a perfect fit for the Tree of Life. It has built-in lore to explain talking animals with humans, a strong message that fits AK’s vision, and it’s just a good movie to boot. Also an IP that needs no prior knowledge to enjoy as an attraction. The animals act like…animals

I won’t ‘ruin the Magic’, but just know the Monsters are well rehearsed and prepared for anything. A few digital enhancements and ‘magic’ come into play during a show to keep the pace moving, and improve skills are an absolute must. As soon as an audience is entering the performance space, the Monsters are watching you from above. Scary? Nothing to be afraid of. They are just already deciding which Guests will end up being a part of the show….yes, even ‘That Guy’! And do send them your jokes. I get the impression not enough Guests do this these days with so many other distractions ( smart phones…cough ) happening in the waiting areas. Oh, and pay attention to your surroundings in there. Lots of fun things to discover while you wait! -

That’s indeed the question I’m trying to find an answer to! Haha.

Can't speak to that, unfortunately. I started in what was known at the time as Stitch Complex, and ended at Space. I know the "monsters" had pretty cushy digs backstage, though! I would imagine the lighting and audio is all automated, though? But presumably there is some type of management for the Equity Cast (who definitely make decent money).

...that guy?

TrainsOfDisneyMar 17, 2026

Thanks! Do you happen to know about the entertainment staffing for laugh floor? Is there an audio tech? Lightning tech? Stage manager?

Chester&Hester EnthusiastMar 16, 2026

Having worked Tomorrowland Ops, this is correct. Buzz, Monsters, and CoP are one rotation, and TTA and Astro (plus Stitch previously) are another. Space and Speedway (and I assume Tron, though it opened long after I left) are their own rotations as solo attractions.

Notes from NeverlandMar 16, 2026

Hoppers feels like such a better fit in the Tree of Life than Zootopia.

Technically it doesn't as the previous Tomorrowland spinner was called Rocket Jets. https://vocal.media/wander/the-tomorrowland-problem-part-1

There’s also Astro orbiter at Disneyland and I don’t know if it really counts, but Space at Tokyo. Half nod to there was very real plans to move Small World at Tokyo too. America sings was in a very strange way half reused in Splash at Disneyland. Likewise a scene of Snow White at Mk to SDMT. Oh and Emotional Whirlwind! Not in any way to imply this will make that elusive club.
