The return of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectaular - December 2021
Posted: Thursday December 23, 2021 2:24pm ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is back at Disney's Hollywood Studios after an almost 2-year absence due to the pandemic.

The great news for fans of the show is that it is essentially back in its original form. All of the main show scenes have survived, including the opening sequence with the boulder, the Cairo fight scene, and the mechanic and aircraft finale.

Watch the video below to see the changes and highlights from the reopened show.

The most significant change is the removal of the casting call from the audience, where guests were brought on stage to act along in the Cairo street scene. This section has been replaced with a very brief audience participation segment, which involves the whole theater acting out a few sound effects. Some may miss the chance to be on stage, but the show flows better now, and we get to the action quicker.

Other less noticeable changes include updates to the script to remove some of the filmmaking aspects that are now somewhat out-dated, and a reduction in the use of guns. There are still gunshots in the show, but they are much less prominent.

Also new for the returning show is a focus on the stunt performers. The entire cast is introduced at the show's start as performers and not unknown stunt doubles and actors.

The sets and effects have been refreshed and look better than ever. Guests appear eager to see the new how, with the theater being packed to capacity during the first couple of days.

Although some would have been hoping for an all-new show, it is great to see a classic piece of Disney’s Hollywood Studios make a return, and even better to see the talented and dedicated Cast Members return to work. Congratulations to the entire EPIC team!

Showtimes are currently daily at 12pm, 1:15pm, 3:15pm, 4:45pm, and 6pm.

Same here. I think that's all depending on how the new movie does though. If it doesn't do well, then Indy's future in the parks is going to be stored away next to the Ark of the Covenant. :/

That’s awesome!

Wish Disney did more with Indy

Trying to figure out where that photo in WDWMagic's post was taken... Looks like it is completely indoors.

Kevin and Michele were also interviewed by THR at the premiere.

He didn't during the show I attended earlier in January. They also had to cancel both the rooftop chase and the aircraft scenes due to 'technical difficulties.' Still fun to have it back.

Yes he arrives from the roof area

Was there yesterday at 4:55? showing the temple scene was there, although (correct me if I’m wrong) Indy is supposed to fall in from the ceiling via rope? If I’m not making that up in my head that was missing along with what you had mentioned about the pilot.

I was there for one of the last shows of the day on Saturday and they tried several takes to get the Giant boulder to roll out in the temple scene but there were mechanical issues.

mm52200Jan 31, 2022

Most likely just a day of issue. Wouldn’t read too much into it.

Not sure how long this has been going on for, but apparently at least as of yesterday, the opening temple scene is missing, and the pilot in the finale does not go through the prop.

The Rocketeer spent time on Residential Street during the heyday of the movie release, waving to guests on the passing Backlot Tour trams.
