Disney has confirmed today that Humunga Kowabunga will close for refurbishment starting January 20, 2026 at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park.
The speed slide attraction will be unavailable almost a month before Typhoon Lagoon closes for its annual refurbishment on February 15, 2026. A notice on the official web site states, "Starting January 20, Humunga Kowabunga will be unavailable."
Refurbishment Timeline
Disney has not announced a reopening date for Humunga Kowabunga. The early closure suggests work will continue during the park's broader refurbishment period.
Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will operate simultaneously from May 26 through September 8, 2026. This summer timeline gives Disney a likely target for completing the slide work before Typhoon Lagoon reopens.
A Notice of Commencement permit filed recently with Orange County lists ProSlide Technology as the contractor for Humunga Kowabunga. The permit describes the scope as "General Construction," without specifying whether this is maintenance or a full slide replacement.
Humunga Kowabunga features three side-by-side speed slides that send riders down a 214-foot slope at speeds up to 30 mph. The attraction has operated since Typhoon Lagoon opened in 1989.
Blizzard Beach will reopen when Typhoon Lagoon closes in February, providing continuous water park access during the refurbishment period.
