Haunted Mansion is back open at Magic Kingdom. The attraction reopened with the park at 9am on Monday, May 4, ending nearly two full days of unexpected closure.

The ride went down at some point early on Saturday, May 2, and remained closed through Sunday, May 3 — with no operational windows during that time.

During the closure, guests checking the My Disney Experience app received a message from Magic Kingdom Vice President Sarah Riles, apologizing for the downtime and asking guests to enjoy other attractions in the meantime.

Disney never publicly explained the cause of the closure, but it appears to have been an unexpected technical issue that required a lengthy troubleshooting process.

If you're heading to Magic Kingdom today, wait times may be higher than usual as guests who missed out over the weekend make it a priority stop.

As always, check the My Disney Experience app for real-time wait times and status before you head to Liberty Square.

Actually adding a Barnabas Bullion as a ghost in te mansion would be a nice bit of cohesion... The portrait as a changing portrait...showing his descent into madness...a ghostly miner...

I am laughing, but with all the false praise going to him, I sincerely fear it will happen.....

It took a little re-arranging of the spririts as the Frontierland section was getting crowded with Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox, Br'er Bear, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn and now Barnabus trying to find space. That's what the downtime was

Disney officially names Robert Iger the 1000th Happy Haunt ......in waiting

My assumption is that the downtime was to allow new signage to be put in place naming the attraction after Bob Iger.

It obviously wasn’t planned. If it was planned we would have known that.

I think it was pretty clear immediately that it wasn’t. Disney doesn’t really do unannounced closures unless it was something they did not plan to do. That has never been their MO, and I’m not sure why you would think it suddenly would become one after years and years of established patterns when it comes to refurbs. They even put out a message in My Disney Experience that indicated that they were trying to get the attraction back online, something that they would not say if this was a planned downtime. You kind of jumped to a conclusion with no supporting evidence whatsoever. I know for a fact you and are others here are not unfamiliar with how Disney handles planned and unplanned closures, so I’m very confused why you and those folks are pretending you are.

With a fire that a CM had to put out causing a closure until late in the evening.

His work finished, the Ghost of Barnabas T. Bullion took up temporary residency in the mansion, meaning it reached its capacity of 1,000 happy haunts - there literally was no room for one more. He’s now returned to torment guests at BTMRR.

I agree. If you really want to examine repeated real failure, just look at Tianna's Breakdown Adventure.

Feel free to end the hysterics.

That's just it. We don't know. Scrims have been up for a while. My first thought is that this was planned. Of course, that could be completely wrong.
