Walt Disney World will host its first esports event with the 2020 Walt Disney World EGF High School National Championship at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

In collaboration with the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF), the event will take place June 12 - 14 at The Arena, bringing together top talent from across the country. Games included in the event will be Overwatch, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros.

“At ESPN Wide World of Sports, we strive to make dreams come true for competitors and fans from many different sports,” said Faron Kelley, vice president, Disney Sports. “We look forward to adding our first high school esports tournament to this list and are proud to work with EGF, a leader in esports youth events.”

Not a lot of info out right now. I would guess there will be a way to watch though. I too would go and take my son. He would like it.

As someone who has played Overwatch for over 3 years, I would love to go check this out if spectator tickets are sold.

My oldest son is right there with you! We tried EVERYTHING except football, because by the time we got to that one, it was clear that sports just weren't his thing. He has autism, too, so "team" stuff just really isn't his bag, and many sports involve time just waiting, which isn't his forte. We try to make up for it by spending lots of time swimming during the summer.

I'm so happy they have video games as an official ESPN sport in this day and age. I was never able to get into sports growing up. Bored me half to death. (No offense, peeps. I know I'm in the minority here.) Super Smash Bros sounds infinitely more interesting!
