EPCOT's main entrance flags that surround Spaceship Earth have been updated today as the park prepares for its relaunch into "World" neighborhoods.

The flag poles were installed earlier this year as part of the main entrance rework.

Each flag represents the park's pavilions, and now includes the EPCOT logo.

EPCOT will officially drop the Future World name from October 1 as the park becomes comprised of four neighborhoods.

I will admit and this is likely a side effect of my first trip to WDW being literally at the beginning of the Millenium Celebration, but I really did at the time underestimate how much the wand actually detracted from SSE until I finally got the intended feel of how it is supposed to be after it was removed during my visit in the spring of 2008. I was happy to see it being removed and I watched this board religiously to see the progress in the Summer of 2007 and that was before I ever posted a thing here. It really was quite eye-opening seeing it as intended in-person finally. Of course, the caveat then and now is that while the wand is gone, the attraction itself is nowhere near as great as it was during the version that largely overlapped with the wand's lifespan, unfortunately. I still marvel that the night and day quality difference between the new entrance and virtually everything else in the EPCOT re-theme are assumedly done by the same WDI team as far as I know though of course, I could be wrong about that. This tree removal ironically now likely makes the entrance look the best it has looked since late 1998 at the earliest or very early 1999 at the latest,

Very much like it use to be pre-tombstone installation. It'll be nice after dark, but during the day they could have a pop up "fry things with Mickey" stand with just skillets in the sun.

I might be misremembering, but I don't think they had trees there during EPCOT's best period. I'm pretty sure this is closer to the original entrance.

As someone who hated the wand, I have to say this looks great to me; a clear view of the beautiful and majestic geodesic sphere that is SSE!!

Trees removed because some family from Denver complained that they intruded on their MAGICAL!!! family photo in front of SSE... Were these the trees that were zapped earlier this year during a freeze or are these different ones? EDIT: Found a pic on BlogMickey. Still not a fan of the removal, but they don't care.
