EPCOT Dedication Plaque 2024
Posted: Tuesday November 26, 2024 6:14am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The EPCOT dedication plaque has made its return to the main entrance of the park, now incorporated into the sleek new signage that reflects the park's updated aesthetic.

The plaque is mounted on a black background, framed by a contrasting blue border. The design also features EPCOT's bold font, a signature element of the park's refreshed visual style.

The dedication plaque includes the text written by Card Walker.

To all who come to this Place of Joy, Hope and Friendship
Welcome
Epcot is inspired by Walt Disney's creative vision. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, wonders of enterprise and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all. May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere.

This update follows a series of enhancements to EPCOT's entrance, including the installation of new lighting, flags, landscaping updates, and a refreshed entrance fountain that pays homage to the park's classic look.

You can find the plaque near the EPOCOT main entrance at the flag pole.

That depends on the issue. Disney often has their own custom or heavily modified control systems. This was why Intamin very publicly disowned California Screamin’ about 20 years ago when there was a train collision. If there’s any truth to the power washer story, there would be finger pointing on things like communication and who did what. There are variables in the relationship between the vendor and installer from being the same, to authorized installer to no formal relationship. But the installer probably wasn’t doing everything like running power and data through the site so different subcontractors hired by the GC ere possibly involved.

Most of the time, there is either an implied or written workmanship warranty from the installer, at minimum. This is in addition to any warranty from the manufacturer of the product. But given the nature of commercial construction at this scale, there is a web of contractors, subcontractors, vendors and manufacturers to work with, which is likely part of the reason why it took so long for fixes to begin being worked on.

Which, theoretically means it’s up to the vendor to get it right

Well I think that is what they had already hoped they did. The inground system is an off-the-shelf product by a specialist vendor.

Disney needs to solve this like they solve most of their pernicious problems: 1. Find out what company is in the forefront of LED installations. 2. Buy it.

Maybe we need to hold our Magic Bands or phones close, along with a finger, to get the correct green lighting.

Central spotlight will come back soon, work is actively happening on it. Worth mentioning it's different teams working on the entrance plaza and the central spine, they have contractors doing the ground lighting repairs. I would imagine part of leaving them off is just so they can sign off on the project when it's completely finished and turn it all back on then, rather than having them work irregularly/unreliably and feed into people's complaints.

As of last night the ribbon lighting around the entrance plaza perimeter is still completely broken, fountain lighting is still good, aside from one or two lights being out. Any word on the central spotlight coming back?

Wasn't able to dig up any relevant new info other than they've been on after park close every night for more testing. Sounds like work is still actively going on. Entrance plaza work is happening too, though not sure anything is noticeable yet other than the band inside the fountain working again.

No worries. I would guess that they’re working on the show programming for them and decided to just keep them shut off until that’s done, but the fact that the ones by Communicore Hall are already having issues worries me. Although from the looks of it, it seems like the issues are computer/controller related and not actual hardware issues.

Totally missed this, sorry. I'll ask around and see if I can figure out what's going on.
