Dumbo queue indoor playground reopens - June 7 2021

The indoor children’s playground in the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue at Magic Kingdom will close for refurbishment starting January 27, 2025. The playground, a popular feature of the ride’s interactive queue, is expected to reopen in Spring 2025 after the updates are complete.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant Playground

While the playground undergoes its scheduled refurbishment, the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction will remain open for guests. The closure is limited to the play area, allowing families to still enjoy the ride during this time.

Disney has not shared specific details about the scope of the refurbishment, but recent permits indicate upgrades to the playground flooring and netting. Premus of Orlando Inc is handling the flooring work, while West Coast Netting Inc is assigned to the netting updates.

That's disappointing. My kids always loved the disney playgrounds, and they just keep closing them or butchering them.

They didn't give us one this time. We've gotten them in the past, but my kids always want to stay longer. We're local, so I don't mind blowing an hour in a little kid playground area. The wait time was also 25 minute when we got in line that day.

Does this playground still operate with the pager system? Took some littles there not too long ago and we were told we’d lose our spot in line if they wanted to go play. Mind you, the wait time was 25 minutes.

I don't think it will ever re-open. especially considering this is one of those remnants from the days of wasting money on interactive queues that most of us want to forget about.

I understand things happen sometimes out of Disney’s control, but this is a huge loss in the heat of summer for families with littles. We spent a lot of time in there cooling off and letting our kids play when they were younger. To me it’s the best designed interactive queue where you aren’t forced to go in but can still hold your place in line if it’s truly busy.

Didn’t it just close last month? Original plan was January with a “spring” re-open, so I wouldn’t expect this to come back for at least another month.
