Disney files plans for new 'Flex Space' theater at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Apr 20, 2015 in "Disney's Hollywood Studios"

It looks as though Disney's Hollywood Studios will soon be getting a new 'flex space' theater on Sunset Blvd.

A recently filed permit includes plans that outline a new theater space between Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. The backstage area has previously been used to host Darth's Mall during Star Wars Weekends, and various events during the old ESPN The Weekend.

The new 'flex space' theater being built may indicate that the park's other flex space, the Premiere Theater on Street of America may soon be closed. The Frozen Sing Along that currently plays in the location is being relocated to the Hyperion Theater, previously home to the American Idol Experience. Closure of the Premiere Theater without a replacement would leave the park short of locations of visiting high school bands and other special events.

The development is significant because the Premiere Theater sits in a key area that is expected to be used by the major rebuild of Disney's Hollywood Studios that is expected to be announced in the coming months.

That preposterous! It's on a band now.

Next thing you know they are going to make you buy special ticket books to get admission to certain rides. They will probably have the price of those tickets based on the popularity of the ride. ;)

Best line ... of a pretty good show.

So just walk outside the theater, hook a left toward that big silver ball and keep walking due north... you can't miss it. Just tell them, 'Marty sent you.

I really cannot understand this logic when DHS is going to be hurting until Toy Story and Star Wars opens....We need more to do, not add on events that many guests will not choose. Edit- so it's dance party by day and villains show at night/weekends as a hard ticket event? Is that correct?

So the villain show rumours were sort of true. Its just its an extra ticket event. Feels very expensive again though.

I haven't seen this officially listed anywhere so I figured I would post it. An upcharge club villian dining event is coming to the Sunset Theater. http://www.insidethemagic.net/2015/10/club-villain-dining-event-coming-to-walt-disney-world-hollywood-studios/

This is true... I think I was just bitter that day I wrote that comment...

Go down Sunset, turn left like you're going to RnRC, but then keep walking. There's a big gate, and it's behind the gate, next to the RnRC building.

It looks like all the other buildings. Not sure what you mean.

I was actually thinking they did a great job making this look just like all the other Hollywood buildings. Granted, I don't know how long that theme is going to stick around, but for now it blends right in with the rest of the park, looking like it's been there since day one.
