DinoLand U.S.A. closed to guests last night, but DINOSAUR is not quite finished yet.
Animal Kingdom cast members are taking part in a cast-exclusive event today where they get to ride DINOSAUR one final time before the attraction is shut down and handed over to Walt Disney Imagineering for its conversion into the new Indiana Jones adventure.
A Final Ride Before Handoff
The last public ride on DINOSAUR took place yesterday, February 1. The park closed at 8:00 pm, ending nearly 28 years of operation for the attraction.
Today, February 2, cast members are getting their chance to say goodbye. The event gives Animal Kingdom cast a final opportunity to experience the ride before it goes offline for good and construction begins on the Indiana Jones retheme.
Once the cast event wraps up, DINOSAUR will be turned over to Imagineering to begin the conversion work.
What Comes Next
Once DINOSAUR is officially shut down, Imagineering will begin converting the attraction into a new Indiana Jones adventure. The ride will use the same building and track system but will feature an entirely new story set inside a Maya temple.
The Indiana Jones attraction is part of the Tropical Americas land replacing DinoLand U.S.A., scheduled to open in 2027.
Construction is already underway on the Encanto ride and carousel that will also be part of the new land.
