Permit Filed for New Disney Imagineering Facilities at Stolport, Supporting Cars Land and Villains Land

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new permit application with the South Florida Water Management District proposing the addition of two new buildings at Stolport, one of the main WDI operations bases at Walt Disney World lcoated near to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The former STOLport airstrip, originally built in the early years of Walt Disney World, was repurposed into an Imagineering office complex during the development of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. Since then, the area has remained an active hub, providing office and operational space for Imagineers working on projects throughout the resort.

Details of the New Permit

The newly filed “Project K” calls for infrastructure to support the addition of two new buildings at Stolport. Planned work includes:

• Construction of parking areas and sidewalks
• Installation of utilities and drainage collection/conveyance systems
• Modifications to two existing retention ponds—one becoming a dry detention pond and the other converted to a wet detention pond
• Updates to the existing control structures, with new orifices and a weir added to support the drainage redesign

This permit is the latest in a series of new support facilities being developed for Imagineering across Walt Disney World:

• New WDI buildings are currently under construction near the Tropical Americas expansion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
• Additional WDI facilities are underway behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, supporting the upcoming Cars Land and Villains Land projects.
• Imagineering has also recently moved into the former Galactic Starcruiser building following its closure.
