New Aerial Images Reveal Fort Langhorn Demolition for Disney World's Cars-Themed Piston Peak

New aerial photos from @bioreconstruct give us a fresh look at the ongoing work in Magic Kingdom's Frontierland, where demolition is now visibly underway at Fort Langhorn on Tom Sawyer Island.

In the latest images, much of the fort structure has been demolished, leaving behind piles of debris and construction equipment visible around the former site.

The area, once home to one of the island's key landmarks, is being cleared as part of the transformation to make way for Disney's new Cars-themed expansion, which will completely reimagine the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island areas into the newly announced Piston Peak National Park.

The removal of Fort Langhorn follows months of prep work across the island, with Walt Disney Imagineering crews tagging props for preservation or disposal and the river itself completely drained.

This work is part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, which will include the Cars-themed land and a Disney Villains area located beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

There is pretty much a 0% chance of this happening. Aside from Disney rarely acknowledging ride system vendors, Oceaneering International is no longer in the entertainment business. They sold off Oceaneering Entertainment Systems to Falcon’s Beyond last year.

If Avatar got the axe they would not have shown this to investors this close to the D23 presentation. There would have been an absence of mention of Avatar at DCA altogether. Perhaps they have decided to put a Zootopia land somewhere, and people like Jim got their wires crossed on where it’s going. I find that to be very believable. But if they have, that decision has apparently not at the expense of Avatar or else they would not continue to reaffirm it. Shareholders wouldn’t be overly fond of that sort of bare faced lying, even if it’s to preserve a surprise. If it turns out to be their plan I will happily stand here and eat crow and give my sorries to Jim. But as it stands now, they have reaffirmed Avatar multiple times since that Zootopia rumor so I’m sticking with that.

Personally I think you’re reading way too much into it. We know that some of these things being called “areas” in the slide are actually lands. We can see a full land being built at DHS as we speak. This is just a poorly made graphic for an investor call that people who seem to have a few axes to grind on social media are latching onto when there’s nothing really substantive to be taken from it.

It would be foolish to use the Riverboat dock for stroller parking especially with the focal point of Frontierland right behind it...Can you imagine people trying to wade through a sea of strollers to get a better look at the main feature of the area? lol

Based on the concept art and construction so far, the waterfall behind the riverboat landing should be a great picture spot, so perfect for a meet and greet or photopass location

"needs" would be a strong word... Currently for HM and Columbia people park their strollers just north of the liberty square market seating. The area isn't very large, but I don't think HM or HOP are very popular rides for people with strollers. Once Piston Peak opens, there will be a much higher demand for stroller parking in this general area due to the the theme (Cars) and the supposed second more kid friendly attraction. They could (and probably will) build stroller parking into the new area, but the riverboat dock would be a useful place for that overflow or people that want to hit Cars and HM without getting their stroller between.
