A July 4 military flyover of Walt Disney World has produced a striking aerial view of the Piston Peak construction site at Magic Kingdom.

The U.S. Air Force Reserve's 920th Rescue Wing flew an HC-130 aircraft and two HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters over Magic Kingdom and EPCOT at around 10:30am today as part of Walt Disney World's celebration of America's 250th anniversary. The formation departed from Patrick Space Force Base.

Photos and video captured from the rear cargo door of the HC-130 show the full scale of the Piston Peak construction footprint behind Magic Kingdom.

The 920th Rescue Wing is the Air Force Reserve's only combat search and rescue unit. The HC-130J Combat King II is its long-range aircraft, used to carry pararescue teams, coordinate rescue operations, and refuel helicopters mid-flight. The HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters trailing below are the wing's recovery aircraft, built to operate day or night in difficult conditions.

Piston Peak is one of two major new lands under construction at Magic Kingdom, alongside a Villains-themed land. Disney has not announced an opening date for the project.

I don’t see a world where Liberty Square goes away, but I am concerned for HoP. Part of me wonders if that Muppets rumor from a few years ago was true, and they were waiting to announce it until the middle of the presidential administration to avoid any election controversy.

Don't worry, as much as I would like it to stay, its not a matter of if HoP will go away, its a matter of when. And its possible Disney wants to go away from theater type attractions because they do not want the cost of cooling a space unless its selling food or merch??

Unless there was some super hot IP that was a sure-fire hit and is deserving of a land, I don't see them ever replacing the Liberty Square theme. Even though it no longer has its river, and even though it never quite had the cachet that New Orleans Square has, it's still a lot of square feet of good theming and well-performing shops & restaurants. Even if HoP was gutted and served up its interior space for a Fantasyland expansion, Liberty Square itself has no problems that need fixing. Of course, the same could be said about a lot of things they've messed with lately. But I really don't think they see anything to be gained by replacing the land. Just the HoP, and again, even that would be a decade from now, IMHO.

I'd like to see the HoP go away. And that doesn't mean I want the 1700s New England or American Revolutionary era theme to go away, rather I think it could be strengthened by focusing specifically on the colonial/revolutionary era in replacing HoP with a dynamic "American Revolution" attraction like Danse Macabre. Perhaps it would retain the Founding Fathers from HoP combined with projection mapping to transport guests to key revolutionary moments. In fact, I think there's perhaps more patriotic symbology on the way at Liberty Square. I've gone out on a limb to predict that the waterfall we'll see from the old riverboat dock is not going to just be a "nice waterfall, thanks." I think it may include the kind of figurative sculpting we've seen in DAK's Tree of Life, DAC's Grizzly Peak, and Fantasy Springs...such as a bald eagle or Liberty Bell or the Spirit of '76 fife and drum band. I just think the amount of space they've carved out for this waterfall is too much for just some nice, natural, generic rockwork...with a viewing structure. I think it would be an awkward "Huh" moment.

I like the idea of an expanded American Pavilion...adding in the Hall Of Presidents...then perhaps the Liberty Square area could host something new...Ichabod Crane attraction? though maybe anything with a colonial feel will be too far out of context after the googly eyed cars appear nearby.....

Not park wide it’s not. There are historic displays at the Main Street train station, and inside the the Main Street firehouse for example.
