Disney has confirmed what those recent WDI permits were pointing toward. Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney's Hollywood Studios is getting a new character, a new soundtrack, a new name, and new interactive entertainment — all tied to Toy Story 5 — launching Friday, September 25.

The update introduces Lilypad, a frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5, as the attraction's new DJ. The ride gets a new name to go with it: Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad's Jams.

The soundtrack was recorded in Nashville spanning pop, country, EDM, and alt-rock. It mixes reimagined Toy Story classics with original songs written specifically for the attraction.

Tracks include fresh takes on:

  • "You've Got a Friend in Me"
  • "We Belong Together"
  • "I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away"

New originals include "Pizza Planet Promo" and "Spin It Back, Lilypad."

"We wanted to think about the music in a completely new way — taking beloved songs from the Toy Story films, and create catchy new original songs, that are singable, sincere and a little cheesy, as one is about Pizza Planet," said Thomas Niederhiser, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.

"Collaborating with our partners at Pixar Animation Studios to write for these characters and expand their stories is just pure joy," said Geoff Line, Senior Story Lead at Walt Disney Imagineering. "We played with these toys as kids. Now we get to play with them as Imagineers. It doesn't get better than that."

Lilypad also entertains guests in the Toy Story Land backyard area who aren't on the ride. Between tracks, she hypes songs and hosts interactive moments. You can:

  • Guess which toy Lilypad is doodling on her drawing app
  • Help unscramble puzzles
  • Watch "home videos" she's recorded of Toy Story characters

Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad's Jams opens Friday, September 25 at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Toy Story 5 hits Disney+ on September 23.

Starting Friday, September 25, Lilypad from Toy Story 5 will be bringing a new soundtrack to Alien Swirling Saucers:

Imagineers are adding new magic to Alien Swirling Saucers in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting Friday, September 25. We’re so excited to introduce Lilypad from the latest Disney-Pixar film, Toy Story 5, to the backyard alongside Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear. Lilypad is a spirited, frog-shaped smart tablet on a mission to connect friends, and she’s using her tech to bring toys together for an all-new soundtrack to Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams!

With DJ Lilypad on the 1s and 2s, this fresh new lineup features reimagined Toy Story classics and brand-new songs written just for this attraction that are sure to have you riding again and again. Lilypad is the maestro behind the music, connecting to the internet to remix and mashup different tunes from a variety of music styles and genres.

To record this new soundtrack, Imagineers took to Nashville, working with world-class musicians, hopping across genres such as pop, country, EDM, and alt-rock. “We wanted to think about the music in a completely new way—taking beloved songs from the Toy Story films, and create catchy new original songs, that are singable, sincere and a little cheesy, as one is about Pizza Planet,” said Thomas Niederhiser, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.

The Toy Story films are known for iconic songs that bring audiences into the journeys and stories of their favorite characters. We’re excited to reimagine some of these most beloved tunes—like “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “We Belong Together,” and “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away”—and infuse them with a new swirling energy just for this attraction.

In addition to remixing classic Toy Story favorites that you know and love, we’re thrilled to build upon the films with brand-new songs, like the deep crust cut “Pizza Planet Promo,” the in-story theme song of everyone’s favorite pizza arcade, and “Spin It Back, Lilypad,” a tribute to the newest toy in the backyard.

“Collaborating with our partners at Pixar Animation Studios to write for these characters and expand their stories is just pure joy,” said Geoff Line, Senior Story Lead at Walt Disney Imagineering. “We played with these toys as kids. Now we get to play with them as Imagineers. It doesn’t get better than that.” And with Lilypad as DJ, plenty of your favorite toys, like ‘Partysaurus Rex,’ are sure to get more airtime—err, playtime.

Sounds fun to me! Reminds me of the Baymax Version over in Tokyo Disneyland. Guests there even have dances to the different songs!

I am assuming they have just given up on the Andy's Backyard contrivance? Also, maybe they finally realized the acronym.
Andy was so lucky to have a tablet all the way back in the 90s.
anything that continues to grow DHS, no matter how small, is a win

Kid has like 500 building blocks, 10k K'nex, an entire shooting gallery, and now an IPad, he's spoiled rotten for sure
So what year is this land now set in? I’m sure I’m thinking too hard. Let’s just ride some A S S.
ASSLJ -- not quite as catchy as the old one.

Dude, you JUST made me accidentally projectile spit out 1/4 of my lunch on the keyboard in front of me at work with that comment....
🤣

Today's lesson - Do not eat your lunch at work in front of the keyboard while reading unsuspecting comments of your favorite Forum....!

P.S. - THIS is what i am calling this Attraction from this point on.
A.S.S. Jams.
This is the way...

Mixed feelings on this. On the one hand I’m always for things that add more dynamic life to a land and that is one of the few things TSL has going for it. It’s just a fun atmosphere especially for kids. My niece and nephew love it and I’m sure will love this.

On the other hand good grief the thematic coherence of this land is a mess. The size scale is already off and now we’ve got an IPad in Andy’s back yard?

The forthcoming 372-page coffee-table book (Available for only $69.95!) will have the newly-created backstory for TSL and will explain everything.
