Disney's Animal Kingdom has opened a new shopping destination on Discovery Island along the main walkway into the park.

Found just inside the park on the walkway heading towards the Tree of Life, Riverside Depot is an extension to the Disney Outfitters, bringing nearly 5000 sq. ft. of additional space.

The store carries a variety of character merchandise, and offerings from many of the stores found in the park. The Disney Outfitters and Riverside Depot combination is Animal Kingdom's equivalent of Epcot's Mouse Gear and Magic Kingdom's Emporium.

The remainder of Disney Outfitters will go under refurbishment in early 2016, so expect to see merchandise move to different areas until the full project is complete in the Spring of 2016.

We've done DAK at night during every vacation. It looks so different at night (as all the parks do), and really did have a nice feel. We often commented on how cool it would be if they added attractions and stayed open later. So excited this is finally happening.

I remember when DAK had evening extra magical hours a few years back. The park had such a cool vibe when it went dark. I can't wait for them to have everything in place and make it the must see park.

Thanks for your detailed pictures. DAK is shaping up nicely. I like how they are getting everything ready in stages for the extended hours leading into the evenings. Enjoy your trip.

Pretty soon we'll forget about the time AK closed early.

Love how AK is adding nicely themed infrastructure and small pluses all around the park BEFORE it switches over to nighttime offerings. It'll help with the crowds and make the transition a lot easier

Looks nice inside. I really like the exterior. Saw on Twitter that the Thirsty River Bar is open today.

Only had time for a few photos. In short, the design of the new shop is very well done. Another excellent addition to DAK. The large bugs along the top of the wall shelves are a very nice touch.

I think it resembles the gift shop inside the the Animal Kingdom Resort. Nice job, especially if they include some native(African,Asian) merchandise

Be careful Animal Kingdom... don't end up like South Park did when Whole Foods came to town.

I loved the details inside that I saw from the pictures. The baskets, lights, carvings on the bracing. Don't know what the Whole Foods stores look like there, but they certainly don't look like that in Kansas. ;)

It does somewhat resemble the inside of a Whole Foods. The outside looks nice, but I'm hoping the inside looks better in person.

The new store looks like a Whole Foods.
