While Disney already uses a range of Siemens technologies, the agreement expands the relationship and paves the way for the two companies to broaden their technological collaboration across several platforms.

"Embracing new technology is a key strategic priority at Disney because it supports our commitment to creating an outstanding guest experience and drives growth for the entire Company," said Robert A. "Disney and Siemens are two of the world's most recognized and respected brands, both known for their relentless commitment to innovation," said George Nolen, Siemens Corporation president and CEO. "We look forward to working with Disney to grow our relationship and realize the potential of two great innovators."

As part of the deal, Siemens will sponsor several rides and attractions at Walt Disney World Resort including the Epcot icon, "SpaceShip Earth," the nighttime Epcot fireworks show, "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth," as well as new attractions that will be incorporated into Innoventions both at Epcot and at Disneyland Resort. The Sylvania lighting division of Siemens will sponsor Disney-MGM Studio's holiday light show -- "Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights," as well as "Disney's Electrical Parade" and "Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams" at Disneyland Resort in California.

In addition, the companies will work together to develop and further apply new technologies across a range of platforms, as well as explore ways to integrate some of Siemens' technologies into Disney's current attractions and at its resorts. Siemens also will build on its existing relationship with Disney Media Network's and ESPN by sponsoring ABC's video board at Times Square in New York City.

"This new relationship creates an ideal opportunity to demonstrate Siemens' innovations to our customers while also strengthening the Siemens brand in a memorable and relevant way," added Nolen.

20 September 2005: Reflections of Earth technical problems

Yesterday around 4pm, there was an explosion on the inferno barge in the World Showcase Lagoon. The problem was with the Air Launch Firework (ALF) system on the inferno barge. The ALF shell exploded whilst still inside the launch tube. Thankfully nobody was injured, but it is a reminder on the dangers the pyro crews around WDW face on a daily basis.

Both ALF systems (on the UK pavilion and on the inferno barge), have been pulled from the show whilst investigations are ongoing.

14 April 2005: Wonders of Life update

The Wonders of Life pavilion has appeared to be in a slow phase of closing over the last couple of years, with partial closings and seasonal openings. However, in recent weeks painting of the exterior DNA signage has been carried out, along with clearing of foliage around the pavilion. There are also reports from backstage that indicate the normally empty parking lot at  the rear of the building is full (and not with events staff).

As can be seen by this photo above by Wdwtestdummy, there is also other work taking place at the entrance area.  It seems that something is definitely happening, but no information yet on what the plans are for this pavilion.

9 April 2005: FASTPASS modifications

It looks as though some tweaking may be underway with FASTPASS, initially at Epcot. Next week there are plans to modify the system to significantly reduce the time before a second FASTPASS can be obtained (with the exception of a second FASTPASS to the same attraction). This is only a trial, and may or may not become a permanent change.

2 March 2005: Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The forecast is sunnier than ever for this year's Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, which opens with a floral flourish April 15 as a prelude to the "Happiest Celebration on Earth."

For seven weeks beginning April 15, Epcot will bloom with bouquets of custom displays themed to the "Happiest Celebration on Earth," Disney's global jubilee celebrating 50 years of magic at Disney parks and resorts. Intricately detailed topiaries, multi-colored beds of flowers, a lush rose garden, meticulously crafted bonsai trees and other wonders of the plant world will complement thousands of other varieties of flowers and trees at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. The show will add living color to the largest celebration in Walt Disney Parks and Resorts history. And with the innovative new ticket plan "Magic Your Way," guests can customize their vacations for plenty of festival and theme park fun time.

The "Happiest Celebration on Earth," launching May 5, 2005, and lasting well into 2006, will be the biggest bash in Disney history. Disney parks now span the globe and continue to offer the most visited attractions in the world, drawing 100 million visitors on three continents every year -- and still growing.

The 12th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival showcases topiary displays themed to the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" from the park entrance to World Showcase Lagoon, including the signature Spaceship Earth garden, which will feature the "Fab Five" -- Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck. Last year's entrance display, themed to Magical Gatherings, won an Award of Excellence from the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association, and the festival's "Power of Flowers" display won the FNGLA's Floriculture Award.

Minnie's Magnificent Butterfly Garden and Farmer Mickey's Maze are new in Future World, and Flower Power concerts return to America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase with nightly musical entertainment of top acts from the 1960s and '70s including Davy Jones, Paul Revere & the Raiders and Arlo Guthrie. Throughout the park, guests can attend gardening seminars and demonstrations. They also can browse among colorful displays that include The Ultimate Backyard Garden, presented by The Home Depot, and a Fragrance Garden presented by Guerlain.

Guests will again discover the hub of program activity at the Festival Center, located inside Innoventions West behind Fountain View Café. Guest speakers and demonstrations will be scheduled daily. Festival merchandise, program guides and information also will be available in this one-stop welcome shop.

Other festival highlights include:

A WaterFULL World Garden focusing on the importance of water conservation and wetlands restoration via a meandering water display lush with native Florida plants.

Dozens of fragrant rose varieties developed through the centuries in a display that touches on the history of roses.

A "see and sniff" Fragrance Garden at the France pavilion highlighting flowers in several perfumes.

The Ultimate Backyard Garden display, presented by The Home Depot, exploring the trend of gardeners enjoying their home gardens as a retreat or entertainment venue.

"More and more people are spending time in their backyards, and we'll focus on the latest ways to enjoy your home's great outdoors beyond puttering in the garden," says Eric Darden, horticulture manager of the festival. "This year, there are more creative ways than ever to enhance outdoor living spaces, and we're looking forward to helping guests develop ideas and plan inviting garden retreats."

Each festival weekend will be themed with special speakers and events.

"Themed weekends allow us to give our guests special treats by focusing on one aspect of the garden experience," Darden said. "The I Dig Bugs and Art in the Garden weekends are huge favorites. Mother's Day is also a huge weekend for us, with mothers and kids spending all day together among the flowers at Epcot."

Epcot guests who can't get enough of the park's exotic floral displays, gardening tips and other festival activities can make plans for multiple visits to the 12th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival by calling 407/W-DISNEY (934-7639). The festival is included in regular Epcot admission.

1 February 2005: Turtle Talk to be expanded

The popular Turtle Talk show at the Living Seas is rumored to be expanding by featuring other characters from Nemo. Testing has begun using Dory.

16 November 2004: Living Seas Nemo enhancements

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Imagine Crush, the sea turtle from "Finding Nemo," stopping mid-stream, turning to the audience from his movie-screen undersea environment and saying, "Hey you -- dude in the green-striped shirt -- what's that on your head?" Walt Disney Imagineers have created precisely this kind of magical interaction in "Turtle Talk With Crush" at Epcot.

The breakthrough experience gives Walt Disney World guests the chance to engage in live, unrehearsed conversations with the animated sea turtle from the Disney presentation of Pixar's "Finding Nemo." From his digital world under the sea, Crush chats, plays and jokes with guests in a unique, personalized way. The 152-year-old turtle recognizes guests and asks them questions about themselves and the human world in the first-of-its-kind live, real-time animated show.

Located in The Living Seas pavilion at Epcot, "Turtle Talk With Crush" is the latest milestone in Disney's legacy of bringing characters to life in new and incredible ways. It represents Imagineering's latest foray into real-time animation. Using digital projection and sophisticated, voice-activated animation, Imagineers created a new way for Disney guests to talk with this personality-rich character.

The new show began as a prototype in the Research and Development labs of Walt Disney Imagineering in California three years ago. The challenge was to give guests a way to personally interact with Crush from his animated, undersea world.

"The Imagineering team exceeded our wildest hopes, and "Turtle Talk With Crush" is a magical experience that delights children and adults of all ages," said Kathy Mangum, executive show producer and vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering. "You never know what he is going to say, and our guests will be enchanted and amazed."

"Turtle Talk With Crush" opens the door to a new realm of theme park experiences -- one in which Disney guests and their favorite animated characters can talk, joke and play together in a way that only Disney can create.

Also new at The Living Seas: Bruce's Shark World.

Bruce, another of the stars from "Finding Nemo" (the one with the memorably toothy countenance), is featured in an interactive area that provides guests with photo opportunities plus colorful graphics full of fun facts about sharks.

Bruce's Shark World and "Turtle Talk With Crush" are included with Epcot admission and are presented during Future World operating hours.

27 September 2004: Coral Reef  Closed Thru 10/3

Due to the impact of Hurricane Jeanne, the Coral Reef restaurant will not be operating until Sunday, October 3.

30 August 2004: American Heritage Gallery opening early September

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Art lovers will have a new reason to visit Epcot beginning in September when the Walt Disney World theme park opens its sixth gallery, American Heritage Gallery, with an inaugural exhibition exploring the connection between historical African art objects and their influence and significance as interpreted by contemporary African-American artists. The new gallery will be located in the American Adventure pavilion in World Showcase.

"Echoes of Africa" will feature important pieces from the Walt Disney-Tishman African Art Collection, considered to be one of the most significant and respected collections of African art in private hands. The collection was amassed over twenty years and spans the entire region of Africa, focusing primarily on Western Africa. During the three-year run of the exhibit, 15 to 20 pieces from the Walt Disney-Tishman African Art Collection will be on display at any one time, side by side with the works of approximately one dozen contemporary artists.

The Disney-Tishman African Art Collection has played a vital role in the world's understanding of African culture. The study of the objects contributed to some anthropological breakthroughs. Had this collection not been preserved and studied, experts say, some of our understanding of African culture would have been lost to history.

The collection was originally assembled by Paul and Ruth Tishman. The Walt Disney Company acquired the collection from the Tishmans in 1984. The collection has been included in world-class exhibitions since it was acquired by the Walt Disney Company. Objects from the collection are currently on exhibition at numerous museums around the world, including the Louvre, Smithsonian, Monastery of Our Lady of Prado (Valladolid, Spain) and the Museum for African Art, New York.

Renowned author and educator Dr. Lizzetta LeFalle-Collins will serve as guest curator for the exhibit. Dr. LeFalle-Collins is a noted scholar of African-American art and has curated exhibitions for the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco, the American Federation of the Arts in New York, the California African-American Museum in Los Angeles, and the 22nd International Bienal Exhibition in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

As the sixth World Showcase gallery, the American Heritage Gallery joins galleries in the Mexico, Norway, China, Japan and Morocco pavilions. Entry to all of the galleries is included with Epcot admission.

19 June 2004: July 4 Info

Epcot: The American Adventure pavilion in World Showcase serves as the centerpiece of the theme park's Independence Day events with the Voices of Liberty performing a cappella, patriotic music throughout the day. Disney characters will get into the red, white and blue spirit, and "Betsy Ross" will greet youngsters anxious to know about the origins of America's flag. When the sun goes down, the spirit will rise with a special July 4th tribute during "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" at 10 p.m.

9 May 2004:  New American Heritage Gallery

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Art lovers will have a new reason to visit Epcot beginning in August when the Walt Disney World theme park opens its sixth gallery, American Heritage Gallery, with an inaugural exhibition exploring the connection between historical African art objects and their influence and significance as interpreted by contemporary African-American artists.

17 March 2004: Universe of Energy loses sponsorship

The Universe of Energy is no longer sponsored by Exxon, leaving the attraction without a corporate participant. Hess, who have replaced Exxon as the gas station supplier to WDW, are apparently not interested in taking of Exxon's Epcot sponsorship.

8 March 2004: Spaceship Earth changes

Thanks to ChrisH for this report:

"The Global Neighborhood is gone from the end of Spaceship Earth at Epcot. At the bottom of the ride, the sign for it is still there, but the recording that tells you to go visit it has been removed. Then walking off the ride and down the ramp, there are big blue construction walls that go around most of the center of the room, leaving space to walk to the exits on each side of the room. All of the exhibits in the walls (like the StoryTeller Phone) are also gone and the windows are boarded up. Signs for the Global Neighborhood are still up outside, but I can't imagine that will be for long."

4 March 2004: Goofy's Epcot Guide

On Sunday, March 7, a new "scavenger hunt" activity for kids called Goofy's Epcot Guide will be introduced at Epcot. An estimated 3,500 young Guests will be able to take part in this activity each day. The guides will be distributed at the Main Entrance, International Gateway, all Guest
Relations locations, Tip Board and Kidcot locations. As soon as Guests have completed as much of the activity as they desire, they may redeem the completed Guide at all Epcot Guest Relations locations, Mexico Kidcot, Canada Kidcot or the World Traveler Shop at International
Gateway for a special prize--an 8 ½" x 11" character poster perfect for including in a scrapbook. Posters are redeemed one-for-one meaning one poster per Guide. Goofy's Epcot Guide contains all the necessary information for completing the activity and claiming the special poster.

4 March 2004: Casa Mexicana: Discover Modern Mexico exhibit

The new exhibit allows Guests to experience the magic of Mexico by venturing  through the warm and inviting home of the Pakatilchi family. Guests may wander through a courtyard where children can make their own special masks, explore a region of Mexico using an interactive viewing station, rest while immersing themselves in the music of modern Mexico, gain a few tasty tidbits of knowledge in the dining room, learn more about visiting Mexico in the
study and star in their very own Mexican adventure video postcard.

10 February 2004: Test Track rehab

An update on the upcoming Test Track rehab.
Rehab scheduled to run from 29th of February and run until the 2nd of March . As well as the resurfacing of the track and queue area, they are looking at re-introducing the excellent crash car effect towards the end of the indoor section.

Along with the main rehab, the post show Dreamchasers is going down for a rehab until mid March, with a whole new film (possibly 3D).

11 February 2004: Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Extended

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- After eight years and millions of delectable food and wine samplings, the month-long Epcot International Food and Wine Festival will lengthen its run to 45 days beginning Oct. 1, 2004.

In recent years, the popular festival has grown dramatically, attracting a diverse audience of wine connoisseurs and gourmands, as well as droves of wine "amateurs" eager to boost their wine IQs. In addition, the wine fest's Eat to the Beat! nightly concerts, with acts that that have included Sister Sledge and Three Dog Night, have drawn additional crowds since their 2002 festival debut.

"Each year, we host the largest, longest wine fest in the world, and as demand for our food and wine events increased, we knew it was time to grow even more for our guests," said Epcot vice president Brad Rex. "We're happy to announce the festival will expand by 15 additional days and run from Oct. 1 through Nov. 14, 2004."

During the 2003 event, festival chefs served up appetizer-sized tastings of international foods at the rate of nearly 28,000 per day. More than 125 celebrity and Disney chefs conducted culinary demonstrations or hosted special dinner- and tasting-events. And, at least 840 wine and beer seminars delivered complimentary tastings to festival guests.

10 February 2004: Test Track rehab

Test Track is currently planned to be going down for rehab for track and queue resurfacing from February 28 - March 2, and will re-open on March 3 2004.

9 December 2003: Wonders of Life Pavilion to close?

Information has been passed to me that indicates that the Wonders of Life pavilion in Epcot will be shutting down January 5th 2004.  There is some talk of Body Wars, Cranium Command and the Making of Me to operate seasonally, much in the same way as Timekeeper and the COP do in the Magic Kingdom. Please note that this information is not officially confirmed at this time.

23 January 2003: AT&T pulling sponsorship from Spaceship Earth

This item circulated amongst AT&T employees, indicates sponsorship is being heavily cut at all Disney parks.

AT&T ENDS SPONSORSHIPS AT DISNEY PARKS – As part of a continuous evaluation of our sponsorship activities, AT&T has decided not to renew our sponsorships of Spaceship Earth at Walt Disney World (Florida) and Innoventions at Disneyland (California). AT&T made this decision as part of its ongoing efforts to make the best possible use of our sponsorship dollars and ensure the best possible match with our business priorities. AT&T's sponsorship of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT Center began 20 years ago during the days of the Bell System. While we have evolved our partnership with the Walt Disney Company over the years, the Spaceship Earth and Innoventions sponsorships no longer meet the needs of the business. However, we look forward to continuing other marketing and promotional involvement with the Disney Company. Concurrent with the end of the sponsorships, effective Jan. 1, employees no longer have access to discounted Disney tickets or to the hospitality areas associated with these two attractions
