November 19 2001: Walls Down and Soft Opening

I have reports that Triceratop Spin had a soft opening at the weekend, while the coaster remains under construction.

Triceratop Spin is a hub-and-spoke style attraction. Guests in 4-person vehicles (16) move up, down and around in a ride that magically becomes a giant spinning toy top. The top rises to reveal -- what else? -- a dinosaur!

As you can see from the new photos, there is very little progress on the site in 4 months.  I am starting to wonder if recent events with similar rides at DCA have had an impact on this project?  Anyone know anything?

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Overview:
Those wacky dino-maniacs Chester & Hester are at it again. First, it was tables, shelves and racks spilling over with dinosaur toys, trinkets and t-shirts at Chester & Hester’s. Now, crazed by anything cretaceous, they present Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama!, a fun fair complete with wacky midway games and rides. At this corny carny, guests can play Ringosaurus, toss beanbags into dinosaur jaws or hold on tight on Triceratop Spin and Primeval Whirl.

Attraction Description: This family-friendly “mini-land” adjacent to DinoLand U.S.A. features a dinosaur-themed midway and carnival with games and rides.

Opening: Midway and Triceratop Spin open 2001; Primeval Whirl in spring 2002

Location: Adjacent to DinoLand, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Unique Features:

  • Triceratop Spin is a hub-and-spoke style attraction. Guests in 4-person vehicles (16) move up, down and around in a ride that magically becomes a giant spinning toy top. The top rises to reveal -- what else? -- a dinosaur!
  • Primeval Whirl is a coaster ride with 13 rider-controlled spinning cars. Chester and Hester’s homemade “time machine” is a wacky run that sends riders through curves, short drops and the jaws of a dinosaur.
  • Roughly 6-7 brightly colored arcade games are planned for the midway.

4 October 2000: Comment from Joe Rohde

The SPTImes has this interesting quote from the lead designer of AK - commenting on the new additions to Animal Kingdom.

"Walt wanted to get away from the reality of what carnivals are," said Rohde, "This will have the warm, nostalgic feel of what a carnival looked like to a child in the 1930s and 40s. It won't have the vulgar and offensive things we see as adults."

20 August 2000: Spinning Coaster

The long rumored spinning coaster in AK still hasn't shown any signs of actual construction.  We hear from several sources that the project is still going to happen, and the track will be built by Reverchon. http://www.reverchon.com/spinning.htm

April 21 2000: Update from Scott on the coaster track at AK

The coaster track behind Chesters and Hesters has been moved to another location.

Anyone know where?

April 9 2000

We have another report from a CM that coaster track has been spotted at AK.  Any recent visitors to AK notice anything behind Chester and Hesters?

March 30 2000: Coaster track spotted at AK - News from Scott Reed

I have a friend who works in Animal Kingdom 3rd shift, and he said that a few weeks ago, he saw some roller coaster pieces being delivered. He said the track was very wide, and black.
