Exterior refurbishment at The Seas with Nemo and Friends - September 28 2023
Posted: Friday September 29, 2023 8:16am ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The Seas with Nemo and Friends pavilion at EPCOT is getting a makeover, which sees the light blue color covering most of the exterior replaced with beige.

As part of the exterior refurbishment, the squawking "Mine!" seagulls have been removed, and the water splash effect is currently deactivated. Some of the fish on the mural wall have also been removed.

The new paint scheme at the exit area is mostly complete.

The work on The Seas pavilion is taking place just ahead of the official opening of Journey of Water Inspired by Moana in the coming weeks - completing the World Nature neighborhood.

I agree. I think doing more natural components would do wonders here, especially as the "future" ascetic is no longer needed. It also would match the more lush World Nature landscaping areas more.

It really does...the "airport" remodel they did for the addition of Soarin' has really gotten dated fast. I long for the color and whimy of the original interior... Or make the entire interior concourse look like The Land...with soaring trees, Rockwork and waterfalls... Something really dynamic and beautiful... instead of corporate mall/airport with a food court.

I genuinely love it too, but it definitely needs an interior update.

I agree fully and have said something similar since day 1 of this attraction. I could argue the same for Gran Fiesta (though it's not as bad). This comes down to poor storytelling - not poor general ideas. This problem seems to be hindering so many recent Epcot attractions IMHO.

It could have been a marvelous teaching aquarium with Nemo inclusions. Now it's a Nemo museum with some fish and a couple manatees. It's all about where the emphasis (and spending) goes.

I don't even mind Nemo being at the Seas (I'd much prefer it was still Seabase Alpha, which was one of Imagineering's great triumphs, but considering the IP mandate) -- they just did such a poor job of it. Turtle Talk is fine but the ride is pretty bad, and worse, it involved closing off aquarium views. Why didn't they use the IP as a tie in to the aquarium to help teach about marine life rather than shoehorning in a poor attraction and calling it a day?

Indeed, they were. It also doesn't mean I can't keep expressing my dislike for Nemo!

Realistically Disney isn’t going to get rid of nemo. But that doesn’t mean they can’t tone down the tackiness. the new signs and paint job were good improvements.

Just a little tweak. There, much better.

This is the type sign I had hoped we would get to match the other type face! Please Disney

PLEASE. Looks excellent.

This is only a mockup, but a new sign like this would look better… 🤔
