Morocco Pavilion restrooms reopen from refurbishment
Posted: Thursday July 1, 2021 11:31a ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

The restrooms in EPCOT'S Morocco Pavilion have reopened after a six-month refurbishment.

Located on the corner of the pavilion nearest to the France pavilion, the restrooms have reopened just in time for what will undoubtedly be a busy time at EPCOT, with nightly fireworks resuming today July 1.

The updated interior features blue tile work and modern fixtures.

The central courtyard at Morocco remains under construction but should be completed within the coming week.

This might have already been stated but the sad part is they really easily, given the resources they have available, could have brought Moroccan artists over for a couple of weeks along with raw materials produced over there to make the repairs. It is a shame what they have done.

We can blame Chapek for that can’t we?

That's an entirely new area. The other updates around the pavilions have generally maintained or improved on existing quality, as with the repainting of the Canadian chateau, Enoteca Castello, the Tea Caddy, et al; the re-roofing in Norway and Japan; the upgraded wine and gelato stands in Italy; the enhanced pavement that extends out into the promenade for each area; the refreshed bathrooms; etc. This is one of the few things that has felt like a straight downgrade during the general light refresh happening across World Showcase. But yes, stuff like the cut-outs, the backstage views, the weird proportions, and the awful interior of the creperie are not great in the France expansion.

That isn’t going to happen. I really hate what they’ve done to the pavilion, but there’s no sense indulging in this kind of farfetched conspiracy theory.

It is uniquely poor in that we have lost genuine artistry because of it.

My theory is that they degrade the quality slowly... one thing at a time... so when they announce the total retheme of the area to Agrabah, everyone says "oh wow! This is so nice! What an improvement!"

This isn’t uniquely poor. It’s right in line with stuff like the expansion of the France Pavilion.

I hate to say it but that’s probably part of the reason they make a lot of choices. Like for example getting rid of the fountain in the Polynesian lobby. It’s just easier and more convenient/cheaper to maintain something less intricate. Reading back in this thread everything was going well until those stupid tiles. 😡

I don’t think so. They’ve had no issue drawing out other renovations. I personally think it must have somehow been slipped through because someone decided it was particularly high-traffic and prone to damage, therefore warranting a cheaper-to-replace/repair treatment. Hopefully someone who actually cares will push back now that it’s been rightly amplified on social media for the downgrade that it is.

Which makes this choice so baffling? How come the other pavilions refreshes have gone on without a hitch but this one area they decide to cheap out on? Still hoping it’s only temporary and they are getting some tiles specially made in Morocco to be shipped once complete.

They’ve been refreshing the pavement, paint, roofing, and more across basically every pavilion over the course of the past few years. This is probably part of that, but why it seems so uniquely poorly handled is anyone’s guess. Everything else they’ve done has seemed like either a lateral move or an improvement.

I understand that the original was in a state of degradation, but I haven't seen yet just why it was a lights-and-sirens emergency to make it look like the bathroom at some restaurant down the street now, of all times. It's not as though they were going to do much with the place outside of hosting the AP Lounge for a while, and they had plenty of time to research alternatives to potty tile. They didn't even order the backsplash design.

I mean, if it's kitchen backsplash tile... 🤷‍♂️

They weren’t saying that the awful thing should have been done at all, just demonstrating that it’s an even more spectacular brand of lazy that they couldn’t be bothered to purchase tiles labeled as Moroccan by the same vendor they already used.
