Bruce Vaughn, Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Imagineering, joined parks Chairman Josh D'Amaro for a special "Blue Sky" look at what's coming to the Walt Disney World.

According to Bruce, future expansion plans for Magic Kingdom in Florida are the largest ever for the park.

Imagineers are looking to tell stories "Beyond Big Thunder Mountain" similar in scale to lands like Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar – adding new attractions, restaurants, shows, and more.

When announced in 2022, the proposed new land behind Big Thunder Mountain at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom would include experiences based on Disney animation stories including Coco, Encanto and villains.

Vaughn said, "last year, you said we're looking to tell stories beyond Big Thunder Mountain which is still true. I mean, there's a lot of room to play with around there. And we're looking at the possibility of adding new attractions, restaurants, shows, you dream it we're thinking about it. And like I said, the ideas are looking really great."

D'Amaro responded to Vaughn's comments, "There's still a long way to go. But I just want all of our fans to know that we are about to go into overdrive at the Magic Kingdom. And I am looking forward to spending more time with your team as we keep refining these ideas to create something really special that every single person in here is going to love."

This is just nowhere close to true. There was a bunch of wondering “What if?” with Epic Universe. Entire lands were considered and dropped. Drastic revisions completely changed the lands and attractions that are going to open next year.

Not at Universal .. Epic Universe was on point but they knew what they were going to build and not wondering around "what if" word salad! They were romaine ready for a long time coming with that available parcel of land!

If it’s at all certain, they won’t call it blue sky. By their very nature, blue sky plans are meant to be a bit amorphous. Didn’t mean to imply it was.

Yeah but Moana isn’t going to go in the BBTM area (it’s supposed to be in Adventureland)

I agree, however I do think any "blue sky" going forward will actually happen, but would be more these plans are exact, but it's gonna look something like this and have these IP's instead of the last few years of blue sky which was how upset would you be if this is built and don't worry none of this is probably gonna happen anyway. My bets are Moana in Adventureland, Coco as the first phase of BBTM, and IP confirmation/development of Villains and whatever else happens.

I personally think Coco + Moana sounds the most solid and plausible for MK and will basically be ready to get underway when D23 rolls around. I think they will remain wholly blue sky on anything beyond that, maybe with slightly more defined artwork, but nothing official.

That's what I am assuming, to me it kinda seems like Coco, Cars, whatever else, you name it, are all multiple ideas that won't be approved until right near D23. I also assume Villains will just get a confirmation and construction won't start for years (if it happens at all)

People who claim to be in the know say disparate things, so assuming they all have actual sources, the simplest explanation is that plans are in flux, particularly beyond phase 1. Kind of just have to wait and see unless a singular narrative starts emerging.

What is WDI actually planning for this land? All we've heard are projects being considered, and no one has heard villains land is cancelled nor approved. Same with the River boat, it may go away but it may (and probably) won't. COCO is also still not confirmed rather just heavily rumored, and none of the permits have revealed stuff (besides BTM getting updates). I also doubt they'll ever do anything with Raya sadly, even though I think she'd be a great fit for Animal Kingdom.

Hey I just realized Blue Sky is just code for Bull Sh*t.

We don’t what they are planning to be fair. Coco is the one thing we know that might happen but not for certain.

I hope they reconsider Radiator Springs Racers and the Woody ride, because, Cars is NOT a good fit for MK, and two, we don't need another TS ride, Buzz is just footsteps away in Tomorrowland and TSL is at MGM, and we don't need Woody and Jessie paired up for meet and greets at both MK and DHS, we don't need the same pairing at two parks at once by decade's end Hopefully at the last minute, they'll change the footprint for the new land with the following: Yeah.., I'm aware that those blueprints aren't great and the riverboat would travel near the new area..(what about the Villain Mt part.., I think budgetary reasons would revoke it from the project) Coco: pretty much all but confirmed TNBC: Just to give Jack and the gang a long term home at WDW Raya: A family coaster themed to the Awkwafina dragon Elena of Avalor: Since the show and its title character is showing its legacy at MK years after the series concluded, I wouldn't be shocked if they're planning something new for the queen of Avalor at the parks as you can still find Elena at the Hall on the other side of the park(as of this writing) Others: A table service restaurant with a nice view of the nearby area Character greeting trail(like at AK) where guests could potentially find characters like Miguel, Elena(in her signature outfit rather than her gown normally seen at PFTH), Raya, etc. Maybe a gift shop They would be a million times better than what WDI is actually planning on this land

Another example of responding in the more relevant thread, especially since there was a call for focus in the thread this past posted in... I think the area between the Fantasyland and Main Street stations has enough going on around to look at. The area in back, however... So much empty brush and forest representing "Fantasy". Going from Frontierland to the Grand Canyon (or perhaps going from whatever parts of this project interact with the railroad to the dioramas) coming out at the circus.

I hope permits are filed for this soon.
