EPCOT Future World core demolition - November 13 2020
Posted: Friday November 13, 2020 12:18pm ET by WDWMAGIC Staff

Work continues on the demolition of the EPCOT central spine, but at a much slower pace than we saw before the COVID-19 shutdown.

A small crew continues to strip the interior of the eastern side, which has now largely been reduced to a shell. Aerial photos for WDWMAGIC by @cchard.

On the western side, work is progressing on removing the interior of what remains standing of Innoventions.

From ground level, a section of the exterior has been torn out, but the shell of the building remains.

The plans for the area remain uncertain, as Disney grapples with reopening the parks amid COVID-19 and balancing expenditure. Our most recent information suggests that the plans for the eastern side, which includes the former Mouse Gear, Electric Umbrella and Innoventions remain unchanged and will go ahead with new merchandise and food & beverage lcoations. However, the western side seems much more uncertain, with Disney already suggesting that the multi level festival building has been abandoned. The fate of the still standing Communicore building remains unclear.

The continuing evolution of Epcot from a theme park to the world’s largest food court.

One would assume it’s a mishmash of things that sell really well (ie highest prices/margins) from the 345 days a year of festivals I’m not in love with it…but it’s also not the worst idea ever If they’re smart…big If…they rotate it seasonally to not cross with the festival booths…it’s a good idea. If it’s set stuff and they just push volume…not so much.

I’m hoping that they have the empanada that the Encanto booth has during Festival of the Arts. That is one of my favorite festival foods!

Define festival favorites. Thanks.

I hope none of the VPs have heard of this thus far!!

Can't wait until all the VPs come strolling through and realize what a stupid idea it was to knock down West Communicore and the fountain in the first place.

I think it'll do well. With the sitting areas, some shade and chargers, people will probably want to grab a bite and a drink while there.

Idea A+... Execution of the space... hmmm.... I do think this would be an amazing use for Odyssey.

To each their own.

It’s a constant bombardment of festival food. Sometimes enough is enough

I had heard they’ll have some Colombian food along with the Encanto show this summer. Perhaps it’ll go here.

That's actually a great idea. There are often festival foods that I see people rave about that we never get to try because we don't go during those times. Will be fun to try out some festival foods that we normally wouldn't be able to get.
